L’evoluzione della didattica generale dalla storia all’attualità

2015

The systemati…

Bridging probability and calculus: the case of continuous distributions and integrals at the secondary-tertiary transition

2018

International audience; This paper focuses on two mathematical topics, namely continuous probability distributions (CPD) and integral calculus (IC). These two sectors that are linked by the formula P(a<=X<=b)=int_a^b f(x)dx are quite compartmented in teaching classes in France. The main objective is to study whether French students can mobilize the sector of IC to solve tasks in CPD and vice versa at the transition from high school to higher education. Applying the theoretical framework of the Anthropological Theory of the Didactic (ATD), we describe a reference epistemological model (REM) and use it to elaborate a questionnaire in order to test the capacity of students to bridge CPD and IC…

Controversies in the transition from paper and electronic textbooks to digital content

2018

Teaching How to Write Essays in Secondary Education: Didactic Sequences Analysis

2021

[EN] The development of the writing expression competence, and in particular, the argumentative competence has awoken interest among the different educational levels. The essay has been studied from different pers-pectives in Secondary Education, however there are not any studies on how books teach the writing process at this level, where the mini-essay format is actually worked on more. Therefore, the main objective of this paper is to learn more about the examples of didactic sequences to teach how to write essays/mini-essays in textbooks of third and fourth year of Secondary Education. The methodology applied is the analysis of the qualitative content and the gathering of information fro…

L’innovazione tecnologica e il Faculty Development.

2023

The pandemic crisis has accelerated the diffusion of learning environments characterized by the intensive use of technology. This novelty represents a transversal objective of the professionalization of the university teacher with a particular declination on the pedagogical-didactic-evaluation side as a strategic issue for the development of higher education. This paper presents the results of research conducted with 119 newly recruited university teachers and 20 Department Directors. The aim of the research was on the one hand to detect the perception of newly hired teachers related to their teaching metacognitive and evaluative skills with reference to distance learning to highlight specific characteristics that could have encouraged or hindered adaptation to this new condition. On the other hand through the qualitative research the aim has been to penetrate in depth the challenges posed by the digital revolution at University by carrying out 20 interviews with privileged witnesses who represent on the national scene agents of institutional change. The results showed a certain awareness of the need to integrate new ways of teaching to increase interest participation and enthusiasm for technology.Settore M-PED/03 - Didattica E Pedagogia Speciale

Seeing reality through Einstein's eyes: a teaching proposal for special relativity

2021

The teaching of Special Relativity is still a critical issue not only for students but also for teachers. In this paper, we describe the trial of a learning unit on the Special Relativity topic based on Minkowski's approach through spacetime diagrams, following the results in pedagogical researches in this field. The main innovation of our project consists of a mechanical instrument: it allows to physically and mechanically represent Lorentz’s transformations by hands, exploring the effects of a change of the reference frame. Teachers and students can deal “by eye” with unusual phenomena as the loss of simultaneity, time dilation, length contraction, relativistic addition of velocities and …

Epistemic and didactic values of the demonstrative process in different cultures: a case study in Geometry with Chinese and Italian students

2011

This paper presents same key findings of the research project conducted by G.R.I.M. of Palermo on the approaches to justification and proof in Geometry by investigating how Chinese and Italian teachers and students taught particular geometrical topics refereed to different epistemic and didactic values related to own culture. It was found that Chinese teachers and students emphasized justification of the proof by a stressed visual verification based on some metarules linked with the structure of their own written language and defined as historical Chinese modus operandi in the Jiuzhang Suanshu. The Italians paid close attention to mathematical proof by a hypoxemic deductive system defined on the Euclide’ Elements. The geometrical problem discussed on the paper was defined and presented as “one problem multiple solution problems” and “one problem multiple changes”. Important aspect of the case study discussed in the paper focus on the mediation of knowledge between Chinese and Italian students involved in multicultural class. According to us these kind of activities can establish possibilities for the students to confront their self with different cultural social and educational prospective of knowledge discovering the power of mathematics as tool of negotiation in multicultural class?Settore MAT/04 - Matematiche Complementari

How to blend language and ICT in the didactics of scientific translation.

2016

New information and communication technologies (ICT) have burst into all spheres of our lives, modifying them in ways inconceivable barely 10 years ago. Generally speaking, these modifications have enhanced interaction processes (telecommunications), work and human production (task automation). The field of professional translation has been particularly affected by this technological revolution and has led to new research, professional and didactic paradigms, known as Automatic Translati…
