Antigone, today

2020

The tragedy of Antigone revolves around the theme of conflict. Both the version written by Sophocles and the one by Jean Anouilh are mainly focused on conflicts. The conflict between Antigone and Creon is real and symbolic at the same time. It is the conflict between a woman’s body and the law, between women’s and men’s conditions, between two anthropologies. It is also a conflict between two opposite ethical perspectives, and two opposite political visions. It is the conflict between the rule of individuals and the rule of laws, between non-violence and violence, social responsibility and individual egoism, and self-identification and identity. The conflict between Antigone and Creon is th…

Brevi note comparatistiche in tema di suicidio assistito

2019

The essay focuses on the legitimacy of assisted suicide in Italy and in England and Wales, particularly with regard to patients suffering from severe pain from incurable or terminal illnesses. In two recent cases (Cappato and Nicklinson), both Italian and English judges suggested to the Parliament to modify the current state of the law, without making a declaration of incompatibility with Article 8 of the Convention. The paper compares the approach of Corte Costituzionale and UK Supreme Court to the issue, revealing the ambiguity hidden behind those common decisions.

Menores inmigrantes no acompañados, las orillas de la vulnerabilidad, estatus de irregulares y su tratamiento al llegar a España

2018

Different migration processes have been carried out in history, which usually travel in conditions of vulnerability and undermine the dignity of people. Therefore, currently, the migration of unaccompanied minors shakes the receiving society; it is a defenseless population group that is exposed to situations of vulnerability. Unaccompanied immigrant minors and in an irregular situation, whether adolescents, girls or boys, are faced with a dream to improve their lives and those of their families that they left in their country; this is a very dangerous journey where, during the crossing, they are condemned to risk situations and adventures, without the support and safety of their families. What Do You Need a Mathematician For? Martinus Hortensius ’s “Speech on the Dignity and Utility of the Mathematical Sciences ” (Amsterdam 1634)

2004

Send submissions to David E. Rowe, Fachbereich 17--Mathematik, Johannes Gutenberg University, D55099 Mainz, Germany. I n early modem Europe the term mathematical sciences was used to describe those fields of knowledge that depended on measure, number, and weight--reflecting the much-quoted passage from the Wisdom of Solomon 11, 20: "but thou hast ordered all things in measure and number and weight." This included astrology and architecture as well as arithmetic and astronomy. These scientiae or disciplinae mathematicae were generally subdivided into mathematicae purae, dealing with quantity, continuous and discrete as in geometry and arithmetic, and mathematicae mix tae or mediae, dealing n…

La educación para la promoción de los derechos humanos de la tercera generación

2008

The paper deals with the ways to promote the third generation human rights through education. It underlines the evolutionary dynamism of human rights and the necessity to promote a culture based on their recognition. Solidarity is analysed as the value which specify this generation of rights. Then the author defends the rights to a healthy environment, to peoples’ development, and to peace, as key components of any international political community or local communities aiming to meet the requirements of human dignity. Finally, he proposes some pedagogical practices to help the students to become conscious and responsible citizens, so they have the competence to ask to individuals and groups…

Podporządkowanie technologiczne w zatrudnieniu

2022

The employee is not, as yet, separated from the working environment by their 'humanity'. The working environment becomes a kind of network, connected to other employees and the enterprise through invisible threads of dependencies and influences woven from personal data that can be algorithmically arranged and given new meaning and ownership. Authority and subordination are their physical representations. These interdependencies have one thing in common, regardless of the type of organised complexity. Each employee is equally subjected to informational authority, regardless of their profession, tion and industry. Everywhere, they are equally networked, subject to the same pressure and superv…

ABSTRACT.…

Teoría y práctica de la dignidad en cuidados paliativos: una revisión

2014

A review study on human dignity is performed in order to theoretically understand this concept in the framework of palliative care, and in which extent these ideas have been developed on a practical level. Specifically, a review of those texts focused on human dignity from philosophy, law, religion, bioethics, health care and palliative care was carried out. This review also tried to find and report some similarities and differences among different approaches. Those differences are the basis of current debate on palliative care. Authors conclude that any approach to human dignity should be closer to the clinical practice in palliative care.
