In situ hybridization, RT-PCR and Northern blot analysis as well immunohistochemistry were used to examine the expression of C1q, a subcomponent of the rat complement system, in brains of rats infected with Borna disease virus (BDV) and rats afflicted with experimental allergic encephalomyelitis (EAE) induced by the adoptive transfer of myelin basic protein specific T cells. C1q mRNA, which was not detected in normal brain, became clearly detectable using RT-PCR analysis by d14 post infection (p.i.) with BDV. In investigating the agonist binding site of the human brain cholecystokininB receptor (CCKBR), we employed the direct protein chemical approach using a photoreactive tritiated analogue of sulfated cholecystokinin octapeptide, which contains the p-benzoylbenzoyl moiety at the N-terminus, followed by purification of the affinity-labeled receptor to homogeneity. This probe bound specifically, saturably, and with high affinity (KD = 1.2 nM) to the CCKBR and has full agonistic activity. Isotopic variation of parity violation in atomic ytterbium: Description of the measurement method and analysis of systematic effects

We present a detailed description of experimental studies of the parity violation effect in an isotopic chain of atomic ytterbium (Yb), whose results were reported in a recent paper [Antypas et al., Nat. Phys. 15, 120 (2019)]. We discuss the principle of these measurements, made on the Yb $6{s}^{2} {}^{1}{S}_{0}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}5d6s ^{3}D_{1}$ optical transition at 408 nm, describe the experimental apparatus, and give a detailed account of our studies of systematic effects in the experiment. Our results offer a direct observation of the isotopic variation in the atomic parity violation effect, a variation which is in agreement with the prediction of the standard model. These measurem…
