Creating Attractive Places for Whom? A Discourse-Theoretical Approach to Knowledge and Planning

We aim to find a way to produce knowledge of attractiveness of place that is representative of the variety and complexity of what attractiveness entails and the same time productive for place development and planning. On the basis of a study of an INTERREG IV A-project in Norway, we question how and by whom the discourse regarding what is attractive about places is constructed and how the implicit or explicit knowledge is treated in local planning. We find that planning must produce knowledge in which the different narratives about place confront each other, and highlight differences and mutual debate between adversaries. This study functions within the conceptual and practical framework in which transcreation is located as the natural result of the process of adaptation of migrant Syrian narratives to the ancient myth of the Trojan women.  In this paper, our objective is to analyze how participants use the word kansa 'people' on the largest discussion forum in Finland, called Suomi24 (Finland 24). Our main research questions are the following: 1) What kinds of discourses the forum participants relate to kansa 'people' and 2) what kinds of representations the writers attach to kansa and what kinds of meanings they construct for the term on the discussion forum.

Varusteleka on suomalainen armeijaylijäämään ja ulkoiluvarusteisiin erikoistunut yritys, joka on tunnettu omalaatuisesta markkinointityylistään. Varustelekan mainonta on saanut sekä positiivista että negatiivista palautetta, ja myös viranomaiset ovat kommentoineet yrityksen toimintaa. Monikielisyys on osa arkeamme. Täten se voi vaikuttaa myös monien identiteetteihin. Koska myös kielellinen identiteetti muuttuu jatkuvasti, on mahdollista, että opitut kielet voivat vaikuttaa sen rakentumiseen. Monikielisyyden vaikutuksia suomalaisten kieli-identiteetteihin ei olla kuitenkaan mittavasti tutkittu, ja monet aiemmista tutkimuksista keskittyvät vain CLIL-oppijoihin. Tässä tutkielmassa halusin tutkia sekä suomella että vieraalla kielellä opiskelevia lukiolaisia, ja samalla myös löytää mahdollisia yhtäläisyyksiä ja eroavaisuuksia näiden ryhmien välillä. In-Between discourse and genre: doctor-patient interaction in online communication. Formal and informal features in CMC

Abstract This paper presents the results of a corpus-based study which investigates the genre of medical eexchanges between doctors and medical website users. Three conversational routines (greetings, politeness, formal and informal linguistic features) are analyzed. The framework of the study is what some researchers refer to as net linguistics (Posteguillo 2003), consisting of the linguistic study of Computer Mediated Communication (CMC). The findings indicate that health posts are a relatively informal type of d/p interaction which is largely influenced by e-mails and chat conventions.
