Symmetrical Infarction of the Cervical Spinal Cord Due to Spontaneous Bilateral Vertebral Artery Dissection

1998

To the Editor: Vertebral artery (VA) dissection is a well-known cause of vertebrobasilar ischemia in young people and may be due to preceding chiropractic maneuvers, cystic medial necrosis, mucopolysaccharidosis and reticular fiber diseases, vasculitis,1 2 or a yet-unknown arteriopathy.3 Common findings in VA dissection are unilateral or bilateral neck pain associated with cerebellar and brain stem (usually medullary) infarctions,2 3 which are rarely associated with clinical signs of spinal cord lesions.4 5 6 Recently, 1 patient each was described with bilateral spinal cord infarction7 and Brown-Sequard’s syndrome8 as the sole manifestation of spontaneous unilateral VA dissection. We add an…

Surgical Anatomy of the Rectovaginal Space: Does a Standalone Rectovaginal Septum or Denonvilliers Fascia Exist in Women?

2021

Background Below the anterior peritoneal reflection, the anterior rectal wall and mesorectum are separated from the posterior vaginal wall by a virtual rectovaginal space. In this space, the description of a specific and independent rectovaginal septum as a female counterpart of Denonvilliers fascia has been the subject of debate over the years. Objective The aim of this study is to perform an accurate anatomical study of the rectovaginal area in a cadaveric simulation model of total mesorectal excision to evaluate the possible structures and the dissection planes contained within the rectovaginal space. Design and setting This is a cadaveric study performed at the University of Valencia. P…

Dissolution and hydrolysis of fibre sludge using hydroxyalkylimidazolium hydrogensulphate ionic liquids

2014

Abstract The dissolution and hydrolysis of wet fibre sludge in ionic liquids (ILs) with different reaction conditions are performed in this study. Novel types of hydroxyalkylimidazolium hydrogensulphate ILs, [glymim]HSO 4 , [hemim]HSO 4 and [hpmim]HSO 4 , are especially designed and aimed to combine the dissolution and hydrolysis of wet fibre sludge in a one-step pretreatment. The results were obtained based on the analysis of total reducing sugars (TRS) with the DNS method. The dissolution and hydrolysis of fresh wild horse chestnut fruit ( Aesculus hippocastanum ) with the same ILs were also carried out as a comparison reference. Since fibre sludge is cellulose based and horse chestnut fr…

Synthesis, characterization of diorganotin(IV) complexes of N-(2-hydroxyarylidene)aminoacetic acid and antitumour screening in vivo in ehrlich ascite…

2001

Some new diorganotin(IV) complexes have been prepared by reacting potassium N-(2-hydroxyarylidene)aminoacetate with R2SnCl2(R = Me,nBu,Ph). The complexes have been characterized by 1H,13C,119Sn NMR, IR and 119mSn Mössbauer spectroscopic techniques in combination with elemental analysis. In the solid state, the complexes possess penta- and hexa-coordinated tin centres. The hexa-coordinated tin complexes were found to dissociate in solution, giving rise to penta-coordinated species as revealed by 119Sn NMR spectroscopy. Antitumour screening in vivo of the complexes L4snPh2,L4SnPh2· Ph3SnCl and L4SntBU2·t Bu2SnCl2 (L4 = N-(2-hydroxyacetophenone)aminoacetate) is also reported. Copyright © 2001 …

The Relationships between Early Trauma, Dissociation, and Alexithymia in Alcohol Addiction

2014

Objective Addiction is often considered a dissociative behavior that is related to alexithymia and developmental trauma. The study aims were to explore the relationships between early trauma, alexithymia, and dissociation. Methods A total of 117 (males=60; females=57) alcohol-addicted individuals and 117 healthy individuals (males=60; females=57) were administered a series of self-report questionnaires that assess traumatic experiences, alexithymia, and pathological dissociation. Results Correlation analyses indicated significant correlations between alexithymia, dissociation, and trauma and a significant difference between the target and control groups, with higher alexithymia and dissocia…

Interactions of Ultra-cold Alkaline-earth-like and Alkali Atoms with Light

2019

This paper presents the experimental results of photoionization and photoassociation experiments performed with both ultra-cold alkaline-earth-like and alkali atoms. Photoionization cross-section was studied for 88Sr at the blue magic 390 nm wavelength as well as for 87Rb at 254 nm. We also present preliminary results of photoassociation spectroscopy of the molecular line detected near the dissociation threshold of the excited Rb*Hg molecule at D1 Rb line (795 nm).

The Relevance of Mineral Mobilization and -Dissolution on the Reservoir Quality of Sandstones in CO2 Storage Sites

2014

Abstract Rotliegend siliciclastic formations are important reservoirs in central Europe. These sediments consist of pristine red coloured and bleached, high porous and permeable sandstones. To evaluate the relevance of distinct fluids and their fluid-rock alteration reactions on such bleaching processes laboratory static batch experiments under reservoir conditions were conducted. Thereby mineralogical, petrophysical and (hydro-, geo-) chemical rock features were investigated by different analytical methods before and after the experiments. The achieved results suggest that during such fluid-rock interactions a complex interplay between mineral detachment and mineral dissolution processes w…

Substituent effect on ammonia–borane donor–acceptor complexes: a G2(MP2) molecular orbital study

1998

Abstract H3BNHnMe3−n and Me3−nHnBNH3 (n=0–3) donor–acceptor complexes have been studied using the G2(MP2) method. Predicted equilibrium structures and dissociation energies have been correlated to the degree of substitution on the donor and the acceptor separately. It is found that successive methyl substitutions on boron reduce the dissociation energies of the complexes, contrary to the successive substitutions on nitrogen. The NBO partitioning scheme suggests that there is no correlation between the charge transfer and the dissociation energies. These results are interpreted in terms of the changes in the HOMO−LUMO gap, the type of acceptor and donor involved, and distortion of the accept…

Experimental alteration of granitic rocks: Implications for the evolution of geothermal brines in the Upper Rhine Graben, Germany

2020

Abstract Geothermal energy exploitation in the Upper Rhine Graben (URG) chiefly has targeted faults and fractures within or connected with the crystalline basement, where hot fluids of c. 200 °C circulate at depths of c. 5 km. Formation fluids of the crystalline basement are highly saline, NaCl-dominated brines, whereas shallow crystalline basement water ( The trace element concentrations of the leachates are hereby related to the composition and stability of minerals in the rocks and can be directly linked to the proposed and observed dissolution processes at the different temperatures. In experiments with pure water at 70 °C, representing the recharge or infiltration conditions, water-roc…
