Returning to classical statements on the concept of public opinion, I have tried to substantiate empirically the process o f public opinion formation through the individual’s observation of his or her social environment. Of all the pertinent statements by Tocqueville (S), Tiinnies (9), Bryce (4), and Allport (l), I can mention here only Allport’s example of a process of public opinion: the pressure brought to bear on householders in a neighborhood to shovel the snow from their sidewalks. Quantification of the Raf-C1 Interaction With Solid-Supported Bilayers

By use of the quartz crystal microbalance technique, the interaction of the Raf-Ras binding domain (RafRBD) and the cysteine-rich domain Raf-C1 with lipids was quantified by using solid-supported bilayers immobilized on gold electrodes deposited on 5 MHz quartz plates. Solid-supported lipid bilayers were composed of an initial octanethiol monolayer chemisorbed on gold and a physisorbed phospholipid monolayer varying in its lipid composition as the outermost layer. Small GTP-binding proteins of the Ras and Rho family participate in various important signalling pathways. Large clostridial cytotoxins inactivate GTPases by UDP-glucosylation. Using Clostridium difficile toxin B-10463 (TcdB) for inactivation of Rho proteins (RhoA/Rac/Cdc42) and Clostridium sordellii lethal toxin-1522 (TcsL) for inactivation of Ras-proteins (Ras/Rac/Ral, Rap) the role of these GTPases in protein kinase C (PKC) stimulation was studied. Here, we analysed 880 off-patent drugs, which initially comprised the Prestwick Chemical library, as sources of bacterial endotoxin neutralizers. We identified 3,3',5-triiodo-thyroacetic acid (tiratricol) as a non-antibacterial compound that neutralizes the toxic lipopolysaccharide.

Lo studio analizza e propone nel centro storico e nell’area immediatamente ad esso adiacente la ”valori-naturazione” degli edifici attraverso la creazione di giardini pensili e di giardini verticali nei prospetti degli immobili non monumentali. Lo studio approfondisce in particolare le specificità del tetto giardino e del giardino verticale riconoscendo benefici e criticità che contraddistinguono questi sistemi verdi per l’edilizia. Si approfondisce inoltre il concetto di resilienza in stretta relazione alla sostenibilità e al regenerative design applicato all’ambiente costruito. Il tema del regenerative design viene studiato e promosso come strategia adattiva in fase di progettazioneesso richiede di lasciare che la natura rafforzi le sue capacità di autoguarigione e la sua integrità mediante l’uso di metodologie rigenerative integrate. Lo studio intende proporre una base su cui poter fondare ulteriori sviluppi scientifici sui sistemi di inverdimento esistenti o su brevetti in fase di sviluppo applicabili ai centri storici del territorio siciliano. Si prevede la redazione di un libretto divulgativo per gli abitanti volto alla disseminazione di una cultura del verde tecnologico ancora poco presente nei centri siciliani. Per quanto concerne le modalità attuative del progetto di ricerca sono state individuate: sia azioni orientate alla sensibilizzazione dei cittadini di Alcamo e dei residenti nella provincia sia l’individuazione di possibili forme di incentivazione per la mobilitazione di risorse private. For this purpose, a new formulation based on the perturbation of the boundary conditions on the metallic walls of the waveguides combined with an Integral-Equation (IE) analysis technique is proposed. Sediments are believed to be a major sink for silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) in the aquatic environment, but there is a lack of knowledge about the environmental effects and behavior of AgNPs in sediments. The release of highly toxic Ag+ through dissolution of AgNPs is one mechanism leading to toxic effects in sediments. We applied an ultrasound-assisted sequential extraction method to evaluate the dissolution of AgNPs and to study the partitioning of dissolved Ag in sediments. Abstract The linkage between acute adverse effects of cadmium and internal cadmium levels were investigated for the oligochaete worm Lumbriculus variegatus in water at varying degrees of hardness and two different dissolved organic carbon (DOC) concentrations. The LC50s for the effect of cadmium on the survival of the worms greatly differed depending on water hardness and DOC. We found less variability in internal metal toxicity metrics (lethal residue; LR50s) than in external toxicity metrics (lethal concentration; LC50s): LC50s varied from 2.4 to 66.1 μmol/L, while LR50s varied only from 226 to 413 μmol/kg wet weight.
