Die renale Sure- und Ammonium-Ionen-Ausscheidung normaler und adrenalektomierter Ratten und ihre Beeinflussung durch Nebennierenrindenhormone

1959

The renal excretion of acid and ammonium ions after an oral load of monosodium-phosphate (1.2 mEq. per rat) was studied in groups of adrenalectomized er sham-operated rats, maintained on 0.9 per cent NaCI solution and water, on the 6th or 12th day after operation. Untreated groups were compared to groups receiving either Corticotropin (25 U./kg./day s.c.) or Cortisone acetate (12.5 mg./kg./day s.c.) er (7.5 mg./kg./day s.c.) or D,L-Aldosterone acetate Cortexone acetate (0.15 mg./kg./day s.c.) from the 3rd to the 12th day after opetarion. In sham-operated rats Cortisone increased H+ excretion and diuresis on the 6th day after operation (3rd day of treatment). This influence did not persist o…

Effects of Rapid Weight Reduction on Force Production and Vertical Jumping Height

1987

The effects of three weight reduction methods on maximal strength, rate of force development, vertical jumping height, and mechanical power were studied in track and field athletes and volleyball players. The three methods were sauna, diet with diuretic, and diuretic alone. The reductions in weight achieved were 3.4%, 5.8%, and 3.8% of body weight after sauna, diet + diuretic, and diuretic, respectively (P less than 0.001). Maximal isometric leg strength and the rate of isometric force development were decreased after the sauna and diet + diuretic treatments. Dehydration caused by the diuretic method alone did not impair neuromuscular performances. As had been expected from theoretical calc…

Short-Term Effects of Hypertonic Saline Solution in Acute Heart Failure and Long-Term Effects of a Moderate Sodium Restriction in Patients With Compe…

2011

INTRODUCTION: Hypertonic saline solution (HSS) and a moderate Na restriction plus high furosemide dose showed beneficial effects in compensated heart failure (HF), in short and long terms. The study was aimed to verify the effects of this combination on hospitalization time, readmissions and mortality in patients in New York Heart Association (NYHA) class III. METHOD: Chronic ischemic or nonischemic cardiomyopathy uncompensated patients with HF in NYHA III functional class with ejection fraction <40%, serum creatinine <2.5 mg/dL, blood urea nitrogen <60 mg/dL and reduced urinary volume were single-blind randomized in 2 groups: the first group received a 30-minute intravenous infusion of fur…

Predictors of diuresis response to levosimendan administration in patients with acute heart failure

2021

Abstract Funding Acknowledgements Type of funding sources: None. Levosimendan, a calcium sensitizer and potassium channel-opener, is appreciated  for its effects on systemic and pulmonary hemodynamic and for the relief of symptoms in acute heart failure (AHF). Positive effects of levosimendan on renal function have been also described. The aim of the present analysis was to assess the predictors of the diuresis response to levosimendan administration in high risk acute heart failure patients. Methods We analysed 34 consecutive patients admitted with high risk AHF to one centre and treated in intensive cardiac care unit. Levosimendan was administered on top of other treatment as a 24-hour in…

Rationale and Design of the Efficacy of a Standardized Diuretic Protocol in Acute Heart Failure Study

2021

AIMS: Although acute heart failure (AHF) with volume overload is treated with loop diuretics, their dosing and type of administration are mainly based upon expert opinion. A recent position paper from the Heart Failure Association (HFA) proposed a step-wise pharmacologic diuretic strategy to increase the diuretic response and to achieve rapid decongestion. However, no study has evaluated this protocol prospectively. METHODS AND RESULTS: The Efficacy of a Standardized Diuretic Protocol in Acute Heart Failure (ENACT-HF) study is an international, multicentre, non-randomized, open-label, pragmatic study in AHF patients on chronic loop diuretic therapy, admitted to the hospital for intravenous …

Synthesis of recombinant atrial natriuretic peptide (rANP) using hybrid fusion protein-phage fr coat/ANP (CP/ANP).

1997

Abstract Baumanis, V., I. Jansone, A. Skangals, I. Mandrika and V. Berzins. Synthesis of recombinant atrial natriuretic peptide (rANP) using hybrid fusion protein-phage fr coat/ANP (CP/ANP). Peptides 18(8) 1229–1235, 1997.—Recombinant atrial natriuretic peptide (rANP) was expressed in and isolated from E. coli. rANP was purified using HPLC. Amino acid analysis, partial sequencing, and molecular mass were determined. Fused protein was used to rise polyclonal antibodies and to develop of immunoenzymatic assays of rANP and CP/ANP. Experiments were designed to study rANP effects on isolated rabbit aortic strips and to examine hypotensive, diuretic, and natriuretic activity, as well as renal cre…

Influence of induced intrauterine diuresis on the upper urinary tract

1993

There are many possible etiologies of sonographically detected dilatation of the renal pelvis and the ureter during pregnancy. The observation that fetal ureteral dilatation occurs with congenital diabetes insipidus has led to the suspicion of at least a modifying influence resulting from intrauterine diuresis. To increase fetal diuresis experimentally, Wistar rats were treated with 100 mg chlorthalidon and 40 mg furosemide per kg bodyweight per day. The animal experiment was performed with four groups. Group I was treated during the entire course of pregnancy. Group II during the first half and Group III during the second half. Group C was the untreated control group. For morphometric inve…

Indomethacin treatment in amphotericin B induced nephrogenic diabetes insipidus.

1994

Nephrogenic diabetes insipidus (NDI) is a serious side effect of various drugs. Elevated renal prostaglandin E2 levels have been found in patients with lithium-induced NDI and have been implicated in the pathogenesis. We report the case of a patient who developed NDI following treatment with amphotericin B. Prostaglandin levels were elevated. Indomethacin had an antidiuretic effect and normalized prostaglandin levels.
