The concept of this article is that the symbolic relationships between human beings and animals serve as a model for the relationships between the majority and the ethnic minority. We postulate that there are two representations that serve to organize these relationships between human beings and animals: a domestic and a wild one. If the domestic animal is an index of human culture, the wild animal is an index of nature which man considers himself to share with the animal. With the wild representation, contact with the animal will be taboo, as it constitutes a threat to the anthropological difference. Mediterranean Spotted Fever is an acute febrile disease caused by Rickettsia conorii and transmitted to humans by the brown dog tick Rhipicephalus sanguineus. Nearly 400 cases are reported every year in Sicily, mainly from June to September. Exogenous and endogenous provocation of psoriasis. A contribution to the Koebner phenomenon.

Previous literature reports as well as own investigations concerning exogenously and endogenously induced Koebner-reactions in psoriatics are presented. The time interval between irritation and the Koebner-reaction is emphasized. It is proposed, that the intensity of the psoriatic reaction is mediated by circulating DHEA-deficiency. Hypothetical models are presented which allow to explain the different developmental rates of psoriatic lesions in relation to the type of irritation, the area affected and the subsequent proliferative responses.

Abstract Introduction Dog visits to nursing homes are used as a structured approach for enhancing residents' well-being. Few studies have emphasized the perspectives of the organizers. The purpose of the present study was to gain insight into the experiences of volunteer dog handlers and nurses involved in dog visits to nursing homes, focusing on what motivated them to contribute and identifying possible factors to successful dog visits. The regional distribution of opioidergic nerves in the juvenile and adult human prostate and in the adult canine prostate has been studied immunohistochemically using well-characterized polyclonal antisera against multiple opioid peptides. Nerves displaying immunoreactivity (ir) for the proenkephalin (PRO-ENK) derivatives met-enkephalin (ME), leuenkephalin (LE), octapeptide, and heptapeptide (ordered in decreasing frequency) were present in the dorsolateral stroma of human prostate. To determine the effects of Vicoprofen, Ibuprofen, and a placebo on the responses of endogenous opioid peptides following eccentric exercise-induced muscle damage 36 healthy men (age: 22.8 years; height: 178.8+/-6.2cm; body mass: 78.9+/-13.7kg; body fat: 15.8+/-6.5%) volunteered to participate in the study. Each participant was evaluated for pain 24h post and randomly assigned to an experimental group: VIC (Vicoprofen), IBU (Ibuprofen), or P (placebo). During construction of an ileocecal reservoir, such as the Mainz or Indiana pouch, the ileocecal valve is lost. Subsequently, the intestinal transit time is shortened and malabsorption as well as diarrhea may result. Patients having undergone previous bowel resection as well as children with myelomeningocele who often already have frequent defecations will be heavily affected by the loss of the ileocecal valve. Cortisol is a well-known immunosuppressant when used therapeutically. The present investigation was set out to study if diurnal variations in endogenous cortisol production are reflected by changes in proliferative responses of human lymphocytes to either a mitogen (phytohemagglutinin-A, PHA) or an antigen (tetanus toxoid, TT) stimulus.
