Pre-eclampsia (PE), which affects ∼8% of first pregnancies, is associated with faulty placentation. Extravillous cytotrophoblasts (CTBs) fail to differentiate properly, contributing to shallow uterine invasion and deficient spiral artery remodeling. We studied the effects of severe PE (sPE) on the smooth chorion portion of the fetal membranes. The results showed a significant expansion of the CTB layer. The cells displayed enhanced expression of stage-specific antigens that extravillous CTBs normally upregulate as they exit the placenta. ABSTRACT Several expressed sequence tags (ESTs) with homology to chitin deacetylase-like protein (CDA) were selected from a group of Helicoverpa armigera genes whose expression changed after infection with H. armigera single nucleopolyhedrovirus (HearNPV). Some of these ESTs coded for a midgut protein containing a chitin deacetylase domain (CDAD). The expressed protein, HaCDA5a, did not show chitin deacetylase activity, but it showed a strong affinity for binding to chitin. Abstract IFN-α is an antineoplastic agent in the treatment of several solid and hematologic malignancies that exerts strong immune- and autoimmune-stimulating activity. However, the mechanisms of immune activation by IFN-α remain incompletely understood, particularly with regard to CD4+CD25highFoxp+ regulatory T cells (Treg). The possible relationship between GSH and the ability of Bcl-2 to prevent cell death was studied in B16M cells with high (F10) and low (F1) metastatic potential. COX-2 enhances insulin signaling. Finally, the relationship between COX-2 and the miRNAs was confirmed in NAS. Conclusions: COX-2 represses the expression of miRNAs implicated in the insulin signaling pathway via a PI3K/p300-dependent upregulation of DDX5, and by modulating the activity of the Drosha complex. Our study proposes a novel miRNA-dependent mechanism through which COX-2 promotes insulin signaling in liver cells.
