Ruiša pūķgalve Latvijas Universitātes Muzeja herbārijā

2020

Par Gada augu 2020 tika izvēlēts Latvijas aizsargājamais augs ruiša pūķgalve, ko Latvijā pirmo reizi atradis dabaspētnieks Eduards Lēmanis (1841 – 1902) 1883. gadā Antonopolē. Tas kopā ar citiem ruiša pūķgalves herbārija paraugiem glabājas Latvijas Universitātes Muzeja Botānikas un mikoloģijas kolekcijās. Tie ir gan Latvijā, gan Igaunijā ievākti eksemplāri laika posmā no 1848. līdz 1977. gadam.

Lifetime egg production of captive libellulids (Odonata)

The estimation of lifetime egg production (LEP) is a central question in ecology, since the number of eggs produced determines the potential size of the following generation. In this study, I tried to obtain a rough estimation of the LEPs in libellulids in outdoor cages. The main questions were: (1) does hand feeding influence females’ life history traits; (2) how long is the maturation period and the lifespan; (3) does the quality/quantity of eggs vary with female age or size; and (4) how many eggs do females lay in their lifetime? Calcium transport in rat small intestine in vitro and in vivo

Intestinal calcium (Ca) transport was studied in the rat jejunum by the in vitro perfusion technique of Fisher and Parsons and in the tied loop in vivo. Mucosal uptake and absorption of Ca was examined under the following conditions: rising intraluminal Ca-concentrations (0.5–128 meq/l); inhibition of energy dependent metabolism (2,4-dinitrophenol, N2, low temperature); net water flow, out of or into the intestinal lumen; addition of strontium (Sr); pretreatment with low Ca-diet and with 6-methyl-prednisolone. Flows and mixing in channels with misaligned superhydrophobic walls.

Aligned superhydrophobic surfaces with the same texture orientation reduce drag in the channel and generate secondary flows transverse to the direction of the applied pressure gradient. Here we show that a transverse shear can be easily generated by using superhydrophobic channels with misaligned textured surfaces. We propose a general theoretical approach to quantify this transverse flow by introducing the concept of an effective shear tensor. To illustrate its use, we present approximate theoretical solutions and Dissipative Particle Dynamics simulations for striped superhydrophobic channels. Abstract Suspensions of solid particles into liquids within industrial stirred tanks are frequently carried out at an impeller speed lower than the minimum required for complete suspension conditions.
