Lo studio Basile. Crocevia di arti e mestieri.

2013

2020

The Department of Architecture of Palermo keeps some drawings related to the activity of one of the greatest architects to have worked in Sicily in the eighteenth century: Rosario Gagliardi (Syracuse, ca. 1690-Noto, 1762). The importance of the small corpus - coming from a collection already constituted in the 18th century (the Mazza Collection) - is also linked to the fact that the drawings include famous edifices of Sicilian Baroque architecture: from the cathedral of San Giorgio in Ragusa to the churches of Santa Chiara and San Domenico in Noto. The thorough examination of the drawings offers the opportunity for a more general reflection on the characteristics of architectural design in …

Deploying harmonized ITS services in the framework of EasyWay project

2012

In the last decade, the use of new technologies in the transportation domain has made possible the development of the Intelligent Transport System (ITS). However, the ITS services were deployed isolated. The purpose of the EasyWay Project is to involve all the European countries to deploy harmonized ITS services taking into account the European citizen as final In this paper, an introduction of EasyWay project is done, including the ITS concept services and the Deployment Guidelines. A deployment guideline for traffic management and corridors is presented. Using this guideline, a real Spanish Traffic management Plan is analyzed.

The diagnostic role of saliva - A Review

2011

As a diagnostic fluid, saliva offers distinctive advantages over serum because it can be collected non-invasively by individuals, even by patient. Does not require special equipment for collection and storage as unlike blood saliva does not clot. Advantageous for person in whom blood drawing is difficult as in obese and haemophilic patient. Whole saliva used for diagnosis of systemic diseases, because it contains serum constituents. These constituents are derived from the local vasculature of the salivary glands and gingival cervicular fluid. This review examines the diagnostic application of saliva for hereditary disorders, autoimmune diseases, malignant and infectious diseases, and endocri…

Numerical study of the components positioning influence on the stability of a reverse shoulder prosthesis

2014

Aim of this paper is to setup a novel procedure able to analyze performances of a reverse shoulder prosthesis when different geometrical configurations are assumed. Nowadays, such a prosthesis is widely used but, because of its novelty, data in literature give poor information about performances and limits to its applicability. The activity has been divided into the following steps. At the beginning the shape of the prosthesis has been digitally acquired via a 3D scanner. Then, CAD models of all prosthetic components have been geometrically optimized in a way to obtain final entities suitable for numerical simulations. After that, CAD assemblies have been created between prosthetic componen…

Sensorimotor Communication for Humans and Robots: Improving Interactive Skills by Sending Coordination Signals

2018

During joint actions, humans continuously exchange coordination signals and use nonverbal, sensorimotor forms of communication. Here we discuss a specific example of sensorimotor communication-"signaling"-which consists in the intentional modification of one's own action plan (e.g., a plan for reaching a glass of wine) to make it more predictable or discriminable from alternative action plans that are contextually plausible (e.g., a plan for reaching another glass on the same table). We first review the existing evidence on signaling in human-human interactions, discussing under which conditions humans use signaling. Successively, we distill these insights into a computational theory of sig…

Sharing Drawings with Smartphones in the Classroom – Art-Based Education in Social Sciences

2020

This article identifies the factors that indicate the opportunity of reviewing the methods in teaching economics in order to overcome the traditional teaching-learning scheme that overvalues rote learning and find formulas that facilitate the development of analytical skills. On the other hand, this work points out the importance of developing creative competences. One way to do this is to introduce artistic practices in the classroom, even in non-artistic subjects. In this work an experience of education based on the arts is presented. Thanks to smartphone cameras, students can share and project drawings in the classroom immediately to facilitate group learning. The proposal is to represen…

PLAYING WITH THE COLORS-PRE-SCHOOL CHILDREN’S SELF-DIRECTED DRAWING EXPERIANCE

2019

At the pre-scool age, playing is the main key to the child’s way to express them selfs in drawing process. In order to ensure the self-directed drawing, there is a need for the availability of diverse naterials throughout of the day, enabling the child to act and play in accordance with his intentions. In a drawing process, trying out different techniques, tools, mixing colors, trying to discover new ways of expression, observing and imitating other (children’s or adult) actions, provides the basic conditions for meaningful activity of a child. The aim of the thesis is to find out theoretically and practically the essence of self-directed drawing activity of preschool children and possibilit…

Design of the Tube Roll Forming Process Through an Heuristic Algorithm

2002

In the paper the design of an industrial tube roll forming process is developed utilizing an heuristic algorithm, namely the simulated annealing (SA). In particular both the number and the shape of the deforming rolls are determined in order to define the forming sequence. The effectiveness of the results supplied by the SA algorithm is verified both by means of some experiments tests carried out on an industrial tube roll forming equipment and through a set of numerical simulations of the process.

Quality in the consulting service – evaluation and impact: a survey in Spanish firms

2001

The paper deals with the importance of the work of external consultants in firms and of consulting as a function. The study deals with the analysis of external advice within small to medium‐sized enterprises. It tries to reflect the actual importance of external advice sought by firms in trying to reach the highest possible level of client satisfaction. The survey reported in this paper was carried out to evaluate the impact of consulting and to determine the degree of satisfaction of the clients that had used Spanish consulting services. To this end, firms that had used such services were interviewed on‐site. The purpose of the research was to analyse the effects on management processes wi…
