Priming with a combination of proangiogenic growth factors improves wound healing in normoglycemic mice
2011
Growth factors and/or angiogenic factors are supposed to improve wound healing. The aim of our study was to evaluate the effects of subcutaneous pretreatment with combinatory proangiogenic factors on wound closure, mechan - ical properties, vessel density and morphology. Twenty-eight Balb/c mice were divided equally into two groups. A mixture of VEGF (35.0 µg), bFGF (2.5 µg) and P dGF (3.5 µg) was administered subcutaneously 3, 5 and 7 days to 14 mice before full thickness skin punch biopsy wounding, whereas 14 control animals received three injections of 0.2 ml saline solution. Wound sizes were assessed daily and the repaired tissues were harvested 7 days after complete wound closure. Comp…
Occurrence of Drug-Resistant Bacteria in Two European Eel Farms
2005
ABSTRACT The occurrence of strains that are resistant to oxolinic acid, oxytetracycline, sulfamethoxazole-trimethoprim, and nitrofurantoin among heterotrophic bacteria, including human and fish pathogens, in two freshwater eel farms was investigated. High levels of individual- and multiple-drug-resistant bacteria were detected, although sampling events were not correlated with clinical outbreaks and drug therapy.
Efficacy and tolerability of a fixed dose combination of cortex phospholipid liposomes and cyanocobalamin for intramuscular use in peripheral neuropa…
2019
Peripheral neuropathies are frequently encourtered in clinical practice and are assiociated with a major impairment in quality of life . Howewvwr, their management reamans poor, and current therapies are often burdened with major side effects and can present poor efficacy on pain and functionality. Therefore, it has been suggested that the combination of two or more different drugs may improve analgesis efficacy and reduce side effects. Tricortin 1000 is formulated with 12 mg of Brain cortex phospholipid liposomes + 1000 microgrammi of Cyanocobalamin injectable (PL+ CNCb1) for intramuscolar use and is indicated in the tratment of poly-algo-neuropathic syndromes. This combination exerts a ma…
Abnormal peripubertal development of the rat mammary gland following exposure in utero and during lactation to a mixture of genistein and the food co…
2011
The impact of early exposure to endocrine disruptor mixtures on mammary gland development is poorly known. Here, we identify the effects of a conception to weaning exposure of rats to the phytoestrogen genistein (G) and/or the antiandrogen vinclozolin (V) at 1 mg/kg-d, alone or in association. Using several approaches, we found that G- and GV-exposed rats displayed significantly greater epithelial branching and proliferation, wider terminal end buds than controls at PND35, as well as ductal hyperplasia and periductal fibrosis. Focal branching defects were present in V-exposed rats. An increased ER and AR expression was observed in G- and CV- as compared to V-exposed rats at PND35. Surprisin…
Comparative Biological Properties and Mineralization Potential of 3 Endodontic Materials for Vital Pulp Therapy: Theracal PT, Theracal LC, and Bioden…
2021
INTRODUCTION The aim of this study was to assess the biological properties and mineralization potential of the new Theracal PT (Bisco Inc, Schaumburg, IL) compared with its predecessor Theracal LC (Bisco Inc) and the hydraulic silicate-based cement Biodentine (Septodont, Saint-Maur-des-Fosses, France) on human dental pulp stem cells (hDPSCs) in vitro. METHODS Standardized sample discs were obtained for each material (n = 30) together with 1:1, 1:2, and 1:4 material eluates. Previously characterized hDPSCs were cultured with the different materials in standardized conditions, and the following assays were performed: a 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay, a woun…
Combined oral prolonged-release oxycodone and naloxone in chronic pain management
2013
Introduction: The use of opioids is associated with unwanted adverse effects, particularly opioid-induced constipation (OIC). The adverse effects of opioids on gastrointestinal function are mediated by the interaction with opioid receptors in the gastrointestinal tract. The most common drugs used for relieving OIC are laxatives, which do not address the opioid receptor-mediated bowel dysfunction and do not provide sufficient relief. Areas covered: This paper discusses the role of a combination of prolongedrelease formulation of oxycodone (OX) and naloxone (N) in the prevention and management of OIC, reporting efficacy and safety outcome of controlled studies. In a therapeutic area of great …

Severe Tremor After Cotrimoxazole-Induced Elevation of Venlafaxine Serum Concentrations in a Patient With Major Depressive Disorder
2013
: We describe a female patient who was an extensive metabolizer of cytochrome P450 isoenzyme (CYP) 2D6 and an intermediate metabolizer of CYP2C19 (genotype: CYP2C19 *1/*2). She exhibited high serum concentrations of venlafaxine and O-desmethylvenlafaxine and developed severe tremor after comedication with cotrimoxazole (sulfamethazole/trimethoprim). Venlafaxine is mainly metabolized by O- and N-demethylation. O-demethylation is catalyzed by the highly polymorphic CYP2D6 and N-demethylation by several enzymes, CYP2C19, CYP2C9, and CYP3A4. The observed overall pharmacokinetic effect was most probably the result of decreased N-demethylation of venlafaxine by (1) reduced expression of CYP2C19 d…
Fluticasone propionate/formoterol: a fixed-combination therapy with flexible dosage.
2014
International guidelines describe asthma control as the main outcome of asthma management. Prevention of symptoms, improved quality of life, and reduction of exacerbations are the main components, consequently decreasing health care costs. However, many of these objectives remain unmet in real life: several surveys show that a large proportion of asthmatic patients are not well controlled despite the efficacy of current available treatment. Several randomized controlled clinical trials indicate that combining inhaled corticosteroids and long-acting β2-agonists, by means of a single inhaler, greatly improves the management of the disease. The results of 9 multicenter phase III clinical studi…
Impact of COVID-19 pandemic on acute heart failure admissions and mortality: a multicentre study (COV-HF-SIRIO 6 study)
2022
Abstract Aims The coronavirus disease‐2019 (COVID‐19) pandemic has changed the landscape of medical care delivery worldwide. We aimed to assess the influence of COVID‐19 pandemic on hospital admissions and in‐hospital mortality rate in patients with acute heart failure (AHF) in a retrospective, multicentre study. Methods and results From 1 January 2019 to 31 December 2020, a total of 101 433 patients were hospitalized in 24 Cardiology Departments in Poland. The number of patients admitted due to AHF decreased by 23.4% from 9853 in 2019 to 7546 in 2020 (P < 0.001). We noted a significant reduction of self‐referrals in the times of COVID‐19 pandemic accounting 27.8% (P < 0.001), with increase…
