Évaluation de la prescription des antalgiques de palier II chez la personne âgée de 75 ans en médecine générale

2017

Although step-2 analgesics (S2A) are recommended when step-1 analgesics (S1A) are ineffective or in cases of moderate to severe pain, their efficacy varies. This study evaluated the place attributed by general practitioners (GPs) to S2A in the treatment of nociceptive pain in elderly persons (EP). Descriptive, transversal and declarative study conducted among GPs in Burgundy. In total, 115 GPs took part in the survey. Among these, 60.8% had at least one consultation/day for pain. After paracetamol, which was systematically preferred, 56.4% prescribed S2A for EP. The reasons for prescribing S2A included pain not relieved by S1A in 93% of cases, another medical treatment or not (42.6%), or th…

Antibiotic use and associated factors in a large sample of hospitalised older people

2019

Objectives: The aims of this study were to assess (i) the prevalence of antibiotic use, (ii) factors associated with their use and (iii) the association with in-hospital mortality in a large sample of hospitalised older people in Italy. Methods: Data were obtained from the 2010-2017 REPOSI register held in more than 100 internal medicine and geriatric wards in Italy. Patients aged >= 65 years with at least one antibiotic prescription during their hospitalisation were selected. Multivariable logistic regression models were used to determine factors associated with antibiotic use. Results: A total of 5442 older patients were included in the analysis, of whom 2786 (51.2%) were prescribed anti…

The stigma of low opioid prescription in the hospitalized multimorbid elderly in Italy.

2015

The primary aim of this study was to evaluate the prevalence of opioid prescriptions in hospitalized geriatric patients. Other aims were to evaluate factors associated with opioid prescription, and whether or not there was consistency between the presence of pain and prescription. Opioid prescriptions were gathered from the REgistro POliterapie Societa` Italiana di Medicina Interna (REPOSI) data for the years 2008, 2010 and 2012. 1,380 in-patients, 65+ years old, were enrolled in the first registry run, 1,332 in the second and 1,340 in the third. The prevalence of opioid prescription was calculated at hospital admission and discharge. In the third run of the registry, the degree of pain was…

Pattern of in-hospital changes in drug use in the older people from 2010 to 2016

2017

Purpose: To assess the pattern of in-hospital changes in drug use in older patients from 2010 to 2016. Methods: People aged 65 years or more acutely hospitalized in those internal medicine and geriatric wards that did continuously participate to the REgistro POliterapie Società Italiana di Medicina Interna register from 2010 to 2016 were selected. Drugs use were categorized as 0 to 1 drug (very low drug use), 2 to 4 drugs (low drug use), 5 to 9 drugs (polypharmacy), and 10 or more drugs (excessive polypharmacy). To assess whether or not prevalence of patients in relation to drug use distribution changed overtime, adjusted prevalence ratios (PRs) was estimated with log-binomial regression mo…

Monitoring the quality of the hospital pharmacoterapeutic process by sentinel patient program

2018

To analyze the results of sentinel patient program to monitoring the  quality pharmacoterapeutic process in the hospitalized patient through  medication errors.Design: Observational, prospective and transversal study. Ambit: General hospital of 1,000 beds. From May 2011 to June 2016.  Sample: Patients with treatment prescribe within 24 hours of being admitted  with 4 or more medications.Medication error, drugs prescribed,  medications and doses dispensing, drugs administered. Safety indicators were  defined based on medication errors at each stage of the pharmacotherapeutic  process.Of the 746 patients studied, 334 had at least 1 medication error  (44.8%; IC95%: 41.7-47.8). In the 746 treatm…

Analysis of the antibiotic prophylaxis prescribed by Spanish oral surgeons

2009

Aim: To identify prophylactic antibiotic prescription practices among Spanish dentists with preferential dedication to Oral Surgery in different types of tooth extraction surgeries. Method: Members of the Spanish Oral Surgery Society were surveyed on antibiotic prophylaxis use in 4 different tooth extraction modalities scaled according to their surgical invasiveness. Results: Sixty-nine of the 105 distributed questionnaires were returned completed. Thirteen percent of the surveyed surgeons would prescribe antibiotics to prevent postoperative wound infection when confronted with conventional tooth extraction lasting less than 5 minutes.
