Stoichiometry-related Auger lineshapes in titanium oxides: Influence of valence-band profile and of Coster-Kronig processes

International audience; The ability to determine the nature and the occurrence of defects is a central need of ceramic surface chemistry. In titanium oxides, the Ti-LMV Auger decays line shape is very sensitive to the titanium degree of oxidation, and has long been empirically used as a qualitative probe of the stoichiometry. In the present work, resonant Auger and resonant valence-band measurements at the Ti-L2,3 edges in TiO2, TiO2–x and metallic titanium provide a clear evidence that the evolutions of the Ti-LMV Auger line shape are due to drastic changes in the valence-band profile and in the probability of L2L3V Coster-Kronig decay processes when a fraction of titanium ions is reduced.…

Endometrial stromal sarcomas: immunohistochemical, electron microscopical and cytogenetic findings in two cases.

Uterine sarcomas are approximately 3% of all malignant uterine corpus tumours. Of these, the tumours that originate solely in the stromal elements of the uterine wall are infrequent and have not been well characterized cytogenetically. We report two cases of endometrial stromal sarcomas (ESS), one low grade and one high grade, diagnosed by conventional histology, immunocytochemistry, electron microscopy and cytogenetics. Morphologically clear-cut differential structures were seen at optical, immunohistochemical, and electron microscopic levels, permitting a clear differential diagnosis. The landscape of the excitation profiles of the αE and β emission bands in silica

Abstract We report data about the relevance of the conformational heterogeneity in determining the optical properties of oxygen deficiency point defects in natural silica samples. The spectral profiles of the photoluminescence emissions at about 4.2 eV (α E band) and at about 3.15 eV (β band), and the efficiency of the intersystem-crossing mechanism connecting them appear modified by a fine tuning of the excitation energy within the B 2β absorption band. Moreover, the relative excitation optically spectra indicate the presence of optically distinguishable contributions to the emission profile. Correlation between Zn vacancies and photoluminescence emission in ZnO films.

Photoluminescence and positron annihilation spectroscopy have been used to characterize and identify vacancy-type defects produced in ZnO films grown on sapphire by metal-organic chemical-vapor deposition. The photoluminescence of the samples in the near band edge region has been studied, paying particular attention to the emission at 370.5 nm (3.346 eV). Optical characterization of Mg-doped GaN films grown by metalorganic chemical vapor phase deposition

Scanning electron microscopy, micro-Raman, and photoluminescence (PL) measurements are reported for Mg-doped GaN films grown on (0001) sapphire substrates by low-pressure metalorganic chemical vapor phase deposition. The surface morphology, structural, and optical properties of GaN samples with Mg concentrations ranging from 1019 to 1021 cm−3 have been studied. In the scanning micrographs large triangular pyramids are observed, probably due to stacking fault formation and three-dimensional growth. Modulation of the electronic properties of GaN films by surface acoustic waves

We report on the interaction between photogenerated electron-hole pairs and surface acoustic waves (SAW) in GaN films grown on sapphire substrates. The spatial separation of photogenerated carriers by the piezoelectric field of the SAW is evidenced by the quenching of the photoluminescence (PL) intensity. The quenching levels in GaN are significantly smaller than those measured in GaAs under similar conditions. The latter is attributed to the lower exciton ionization efficiency and carrier separation probabilities mediated by the piezoelectric effect. Nature of the blue luminescence bands in PbWO4

Abstract The photoluminescence spectrum of PbWO 4 is composed of blue and green bands, previously attributed to the regular WO 4 group and to the defect-related WO 3 group, respectively. Untill now only green emission was observed in the thermostimulated luminescence (TSL) above 77 K. Investigation of the TSL spectra starting from 20 K indicates that the blue band, being definitely present at least in the 28 K TSL peak, is also due to recombination emission at defect sites.

The TESS Grand Unified Hot Jupiter Survey I. 10 planets

Hot Jupiters-short-period giant planets-were the first extrasolar planets to be discovered, but many questions about their origin remain. NASA's Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS), an all-sky search for transiting planets, presents an opportunity to address these questions by constructing a uniform sample of hot Jupiters for demographic study through new detections and unifying the work of previous ground-based transit surveys. Particle-Rotor Model Study of the Transitional N = 89 and Some N = 91-95 Nuclei

1979

A particle-rotor model with a nonspheroidal axial and reflection symmetric Woods-Saxon potential has been used to describe the rotational bands and gamma branching ratios in some odd-mass nuclei with 95 to 89 neutrons. Systematics of the deformation parameters have been found by calculations in the well-deformed region. The model is capable of giving a systematic classification of the low-lying odd-parity excitations in the N = 91 and expecially in the N = 89 nuclei. An important result is the identification of the 7/2+, 3/2+ and 5/2+ members of the 3/2+[651] side band in the weakly deformed nuclei. High spin states of120Ba

1991

The very neutron deficient nucleus120Ba has been investigated in a high-spin γ-spectroscopic study. The yrast band of120Ba is extended up to spin 22ħ and one tentatively assigned negative-parity side band is observed up to spin 15ħ. The experimental results are compared with Total Routhian Surface calculations.
