A Trajectory-Driven 3D Channel Model for Human Activity Recognition

This paper concerns the design, analysis, and simulation of a 3D non-stationary channel model fed with inertial measurement unit (IMU) data. The work in this paper provides a framework for simulating the micro-Doppler signatures of indoor channels for human activity recognition by using radiofrequency-based sensing technologies. The major human body segments, such as wrists, ankles, torso, and head, are modelled as a cluster of moving point scatterers. We provide expressions for the time variant (TV) speed and TV angles of motion based on 3D trajectories of the moving person. Changes of species specific cuticular hydrocarbon profiles in the cockroaches Nauphoeta cinerea and Leucophaea maderae reared in heterospecific groups

0013-8703 (Print) 1570-7458 (Online); The cuticular hydrocarbon profiles of the cockroaches Nauphoeta cinerea and Leucophaea maderae are species-specific when maintained in homospecific rearings. When individuals were reared in mixed species colonies, they initially remained in homospecific groups under different shelters. However, after 14 days they formed one heterospecific group with cuticular profiles showing characteristics of both species. When individuals were returned in monospecific rearings, their cuticular hydrocarbon profiles returned to species-specific ones within 3 weeks.

A colorimetric array for the chromogenic discrimination of organophosphorous derivatives in gas phase has been developed. The array allows us to classify the nerve agent simulants DFP, DCP and DCNP.

Energy landscapes of ligand-receptor couples probed by dynamic force spectroscopy.

Playing a dominant role in many biochemical processes are the dynamic properties of molecular linkages; examples include cell adhesion, enzyme-catalyzed reactions, and molecular recognition by antibodies. Dynamic force spectroscopy, namely separating molecular bonds under external force ramps has rapidly become a powerful tool to study the rugged energy landscape of noncovalent ligand-receptor bonds. The picture shows a surface and tip-bound pair being pulled apart and the derived potential energy diagram.

3,3′-Disubstitued 2,2′-Bipyridines as Carboxylate Receptors: Conformational Regulation of the Bipyridine Moiety

Two bipyridine derivatives were synthesized and characterized, and their ability to act as sensors for carboxylates was evaluated by UV/Vis and fluorescence studies. The influence of the substituents of the thiourea groups on the stoichiometry of the resulting dicarboxylate complexes was established. Besides ‘‘classical’’ biological materials such as blood and sperm, epithelial cells from latent fingerprints are targeted in forensic sciences. In addition to studies using latent fingerprints applied to beer glasses [1], T-shirts left on crime scenes [2] and various other objects [3], we report the detection of STR profiles from latent fingerprints deposited on ordinary sheets of paper. In contrast to the relatively high number of epithelial cells from saliva or from excessively pressured fingerprints during strangulation [4,5], the experiments with latent fingerprints are expected to generate only a very small number of epithelial cells. Evaluation of olfactory intensity : comparative study of two methods

Two experimental procedures recommended for the evaluation of the psychophysical characteristics of odorous compounds, olfactory matching with the 1-butanol scale and cross-modality matching with the finger span are compared. The intensity of ethyl butyrate and guaiacol solutions presented at four different concentration levels was evaluated by a panel of sixteen subjects over five repetitions using the two methods. Each stimulus was delivered to the subject from a Teflon bag through a nose-shaped glass sniffing port. The e-ASTROGAM gamma-ray space observatory for the multimessenger astronomy of the 2030s

e-ASTROGAM is a concept for a breakthrough observatory space mission carrying a gamma-ray telescope dedicated to the study of the non-thermal Universe in the photon energy range from 0.15 MeV to 3 GeV. The lower energy limit can be pushed down to energies as low as 30 keV for gamma-ray burst detection with the calorimeter. The mission is based on an advanced space-proven detector technology, with unprecedented sensitivity, angular and energy resolution, combined with remarkable polarimetric capability. Triplet exciplexes as energy transfer photosensitisers
