In situ analysis of the bacterial communities associated to farmed eel by whole-cell hybridization.

1999

Bacterial communities in water samples and eel slime were investigated by fluorescence in situ hybridization of whole bacterial cells in an eel intensive culture system over 1 year. A newly developed probe, matching 27 Vibrio spp., and a specific probe for Vibrio vulnificus were used. Phylogenetic probes complementary to selected regions of the 16S and 23S ribosomal RNA revealed that Proteobacteria of the alpha and beta subclass were predominant in water and eel slime. Members of the gamma subclass (e.g. vibrios and aeromonads) were more abundant in eel slime, although no V. vulnificus was detected.

Role of glutathione in Thiobencarb resistance in the European eel Anguilla anguilla.

2000

Glutathione-dependent defense against xenobiotic toxicity is a multifaceted phenomenon that has been well characterized in mammals. In the present study, eels of species Anguilla anguilla were exposed to 15 ppm of the herbicide thiobencarb (S-4-chlorobenzyl diethylthiocarbamate) for 96 h. Eels exposed to the pesticide were grouped in 24-h intervals according to their time of death, while surviving intoxicated eels constituted another group (live animals). Glutathione content (GSx, GSH, GSSG) was determined in liver and muscle tissues of the dead and live (intoxicated) animals and compared to control values (nonexposed eels). The fish that died before 96 h of exposure were considered suscept…

Revealing lattice disorder, oxygen incorporation and pore formation in laser induced two-photon oxidized graphene

2019

Abstract Laser induced two-photon oxidation has proven to be a reliable method to pattern and control the level of oxidation of single layer graphene, which in turn allows the development of graphene-based electronic and optoelectronic devices with an all-optical method. Here we provide a full structural and chemical description of modifications of air-suspended graphene during the oxidation process. By using different laser irradiation doses, we were able to show via transmission electron microscopy, electron energy loss spectroscopy, electron diffraction and Raman spectroscopy how graphene develops from its pristine form up to a completely oxidized, porous and amorphous carbon layer. Furt…

Efficacy of Hydrogen Purification and Cosmetic Acids in the Treatment of Acne Vulgaris: A Preliminary Report

2022

Acne and skin lesions that appear in its course deteriorate the quality of life of patients, cause depression and the emergence of suicidal thoughts. Cosmetic treatments can have a positive effect on improving skin condition by cleaning up skin eruptions, thus improving the well-being of affected people. Hydrogen purification is a treatment that uses alkaline water generated by a device, which reduces sebum from the surface of the epidermis. This is a novel treatment that has recently been introduced to beauty salons. On the other hand, cosmetic acids have been used for many years for treating people with acne vulgaris and give spectacular results in terms of improving the skin condition. I…

Vene õppekeelega põhikooli õpilaste ja õpetajate hoiakud eestikeelse aineõppe suhtes vahetult enne 2007. aasta gümnaasiumireformi algust

2009

Artiklis uuritakse kvantitatiivselt üheksanda klassi õpilaste ja neid eesti keeles õpetanud pedagoogide hoiakuid osalise eestikeelse aineõppe suhtes ning analüüsitakse, millised tegurid soodustavad õpilaste positiivsete hoiakute kujunemist eesti õppekeele suhtes, pöörates erilist tähelepanu uuringus täheldatud erinevusele osa õppeaineid eesti keeles omandanud ja kõiki õppeaineid vene keeles õppinud põhikoolilõpetajate hoiakute vahel. Artikli lõpuosas vaadeldakse kvalitatiivselt eestikeelse aineõppe positiivseid ja negatiivseid mõjusid, näidatakse probleeme, millega eestikeelses aineõppes osalenud õpilased ja õpetajad on kokku puutunud, ning tutvustatakse nende pakutud võimalikke lahendusi. …

ODS tērauda izejmateriālu lokālās struktūras analīze izmantojot Ti un Y K-malas rentgenabsorbcijas spektroskopiju

2017

Alterations on AChE Activity of the Fish Anguilla anguilla as Response to Herbicide-Contaminated Water

2000

Abstract The inhibition of both total and specific acetylcholinesterase activities was measured in the whole eyes of the yellow eel Anguilla anguilla after exposure to the carbamate thiobencarb. In vivo assays were conducted under a constant flow-through system of thiobencarb-contaminated water (1/60 LC50 96 h=0.22 ppm for 96 h) followed by a recovery period in clean water (192 h more). The results indicated a measurable level of AChE activity on eyes of control eels, which resulted in a sensitive indicator of the presence of thiobencarb in the water. The pesticide induced significant inhibitory effects on AChE activity ranging from 35% in total AChE activity to 75% in specific AChE activit…

NO-DO

1998

Renewable Energy Resources for Mathematics Learning : Windmills and Water Wheels at the Math Class

2018

The Finnish National Core Curriculum has been renewed in 2014 and the National Core Curriculum of Korea has been renewed in 2015. Although, the Finnish and the Korean educational culture is radically different from each other, they are both producing top results in international educational assessments and their renewed curricula contain some very similar components. The "multidisciplinary learning module" in Finland and the "STEAM framework" in Korea are both emphasizing the complexity of phenomena, which can be understood only in context and by employing multiple perspectives based on the combination of various subjects. In this workshop, we introduce how to construct windmills and water …
