Sub-200-kHz single soliton generation in a long ring Er-fiber laser with strict polarization control by using twisted fiber

2020

Abstract In the present work we demonstrate a novel single-soliton ultra-low pulse repetition frequency passively mode-locked erbium-doped fiber laser. We mitigate the residual linear birefringence of fiber by fiber twist to achieve a strict control of polarization. For mode-locking the nonlinear polarization rotation (NPR) was used. Special technique was applied to reduce the overdriving of NPR that allows the generation of single soliton in ultra-long cavity. The strict control of polarization yields a stable relation between the polarization state of the pulses propagating in the cavity and the regimes of generation. A 192.12-kHz train of soliton pulses was obtained with pulse duration o…

High quality nano-patterned thin films of the coordination compound {Fe(pyrazine)[Pt(CN)4]} deposited layer-by-layer

2011

International audience; An optimised procedure was developed for the layer-by-layer deposition of the Hofmann clathrate-like coordination compound {Fe(pyrazine)[Pt(CN)4]} either as continuous or as nano-patterned thin films. Characterization of the thickness and topography of the thin films by atomic force microscopy (AFM) and by surface plasmon resonance (SPR) spectroscopy, which also yields the layer's refractive index and losses, are reported. We found that the films are of good optical quality and the results of both AFM and SPR experiments are in good agreement with the theoretical predictions of the films thicknesses.

A Deep Learning Approach for Energy Efficient Computational Offloading in Mobile Edge Computing

2019

Mobile edge computing (MEC) has shown tremendous potential as a means for computationally intensive mobile applications by partially or entirely offloading computations to a nearby server to minimize the energy consumption of user equipment (UE). However, the task of selecting an optimal set of components to offload considering the amount of data transfer as well as the latency in communication is a complex problem. In this paper, we propose a novel energy-efficient deep learning based offloading scheme (EEDOS) to train a deep learning based smart decision-making algorithm that selects an optimal set of application components based on remaining energy of UEs, energy consumption by applicati…

Performance Analysis of Cooperative Communication Systems with Imperfect Channel Estimation

2009

This paper investigates the effects of channel estimation errors on the symbol-error-rate (SER) performance of a cooperative communication system operating in an amplify-and- forward (AF) mode. A pilot symbol assisted modulation scheme with linear minimum mean square estimation (LMMSE) is used for the channel estimation. An accurate and easy-to-evaluate SER expression is presented for uncoded cooperative communication systems with quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) and phase-shift keying (PSK) constellations. Numerical simulations are conducted to verify the correctness of the proposed analytical formulation. It is shown that the performance loss caused by channel estimation errors incre…

Low-Noise Amplification and Frequency Conversion with a Multiport Microwave Optomechanical Device

2016

High-gain amplifiers of electromagnetic signals operating near the quantum limit are crucial for quantum information systems and ultrasensitive quantum measurements. However, the existing techniques have a limited gain-bandwidth product and only operate with weak input signals. Here we demonstrate a two-port optomechanical scheme for amplification and routing of microwave signals, a system that simultaneously performs high-gain amplification and frequency conversion in the quantum regime. Our amplifier, implemented in a two-cavity microwave optomechanical device, shows 41 dB of gain and has a high dynamic range, handling input signals up to $10^{13}$ photons per second, three orders of magn…

Room-temperature polariton luminescence from a bulk GaN microcavity

2006

We report strong exciton-photon coupling at room temperature in a hybrid high quality bulk 3 lambda/2 GaN cavity with a bottom lattice-matched AlInN/AlGaN distributed Bragg reflector through angle-resolved polarized photoluminescence (PL). Coupling of the optically active free excitons (X-A, X-B, and X-C) to the cavity mode is demonstrated, with their contribution to the PL spectra varying with polarization. Under TE polarization, exciton oscillator strengths for X-A and X-B are about one order of magnitude larger than in bulk GaAs. Photoluminescence exhibits a strong bottleneck effect despite its thermal lineshape.

Trajectory robust control of autonomous quadcopters based on model decoupling and disturbance estimation

2021

In this article, a systematic procedure is given for determining a robust motion control law for autonomous quadcopters, starting from an input–output linearizable model. In particular, the suggested technique can be considered as a robust feedback linearization (FL), where the nonlinear state-feedback terms, which contain the aerodynamic forces and moments and other unknown disturbances, are estimated online by means of extended state observers. Therefore, the control system is made robust against unmodelled dynamics and endogenous as well as exogenous disturbances. The desired closed-loop dynamics is obtained by means of pole assignment. To have a feasible control action, that is, the fo…
