Abstract This paper proposes a longitudinal study on the analysis of defense spending of NATO member states in the years 2010-2020. It also aims to identify the emergence of a possible “free-rider” behavior among alliance members. This behavior occurs when some members may be tempted to allocate a low level of defense spending. Defense spending is an important component of each state’s budget, which ensures a vital function of states, namely the national defense function. Has the Push for Equal Gender Representation Changed the Role of Women on German Supervisory Boards?

In Germany, an intensive public debate about increasing female participation in leadership positions started in 2009 and proceeded until the beginning of 2015, when the German parliament enacted a board gender quota. In that period, the share of women on supervisory boards for 111 German publicly listed and fully codetermined companies (i.e. those which are affected by the quota law) more than doubled from 10.6 percent in 2009 to 22.6 percent in 2015. El propósito de este artículo es analizar las aristas de la Directiva sobre la Orden Europea de Protección cuando se trata de proteger a las víctimas de violencia de género. El inexistente concepto de víctima de violencia de género dificulta sobremanera el adecuado uso del instrumento y nos muestra cuánta Europa queda por construir. Al final del artículo proponemos la creación de una medida cautelar civil para acercarnos al resto de ordenamientos jurídicos de nuestro entorno y facilitar el reconocimiento mutuo.

Can aromaticity be connected with molecular polarizability? A theoretical study of benzene isomers and five-membered heterocyclic molecules

Extended calculations of molecular electric dipole polarizability tensor, at Hartree-Fock and correlated level of accuracy (MP2, CCS, CC2, CCSD, and CCSD(T)) have been carried out to investigate whether aromaticity could be related to the electric dipole polarizability of planar ring systems. The calculations prove the exaltation of the average property of conjugated molecules, which is possibly due to their easily polarizable π-electron cloud. On the other hand, theoretical out-of-plane polarizability components are smaller in benzene than in any other C$_6$H$_6$ isomer. Identification of sequences in the human peptide transporter subunit TAP1 required for transporter associated with antigen processing (TAP) function

The heterodimeric peptide transporter associated with antigen processing (TAP) consisting of the subunits TAP1 and TAP2 mediates the transport of cytosolic peptides into the lumen of the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). In order to accurately define domains required for peptide transporter function, a molecular approach based on the construction of a panel of human TAP1 mutants and their expression in TAP1(-/-) cells was employed. The characteristics and biological activity of the various TAP1 mutants were determined, and compared to that of wild-type TAP1 and TAP1(-/-) control cells. Redox regulation of genome stability by effects on gene expression, epigenetic pathways and DNA damage/repair

Reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (e.g. H2O2, nitric oxide) confer redox regulation of essential cellular signaling pathways such as cell differentiation, proliferation, migration and apoptosis. In addition, classical regulation of gene expression or activity, including gene transcription to RNA followed by translation to the protein level, by transcription factors (e.g. NF-κB, HIF-1α) and mRNA binding proteins (e.g. GAPDH, HuR) is subject to redox regulation. Interpatient variability in drug response can be widely explained by genetically determined differences in metabolizing enzymes, drug transporters, and drug targets, leading to different pharmacokinetic and/or pharmacodynamic behaviors of drugs. Genetic variations affect or do not affect drug responses depending on their influence on protein activity and the relevance of such proteins in the pathway of the drug.
