Relaxed Stability and Performance LMI Conditions for Takagi-Sugeno Fuzzy Systems With Polynomial Constraints on Membership Function Shapes

2008

Most linear matrix inequality (LMI) fuzzy control results in literature are valid for any membership function, i.e., independent of the actual membership shape. Hence, they are conservative (with respect to other nonlinear control approaches) when specific knowledge of the shapes is available. This paper presents relaxed LMI conditions for fuzzy control that incorporate such shape information in the form of polynomial constraints, generalizing previous works by the authors. Interesting particular cases are overlap (product) bounds and ellipsoidal regions. Numerical examples illustrate the achieved improvements, as well as the possibilities of solving some multiobjective problems. The result…

Associations of Job Insecurity With Perceived Work-Related Symptoms, Job Satisfaction, and Turnover Intentions: The Mediating Role of Leader–Member E…

2020

This study wants to examine effects of job insecurity on several work-related outcomes (perceived work-related symptoms, job satisfaction, and turnover intentions) by developing a moderated mediation model. The model emphasizes the role played by the quality of leader–member exchange (LMX) in mediating the relation between perceived job insecurity and outcomes related to work, and the moderating role of perceived organizational support (POS) in influencing the mediation. Survey data from 510 workers at Italian organizations were collected, and regression was used to evaluate the hypotheses. After age, gender, education, and organizational tenure were controlled, results showed that perceive…

Medico legal procedures related to sexual assault: a 10-year retrospective experience of a Daphne protocol application

2018

Background: Sexual assault is a worldwide problem that has not yet been sufficiently acknowledged as confirmed by the literature. Italian law n.96, 1996, foreseeing norms regarding rape and sexual abuse, finally gave significant relevance to sex crimes. In 2004, the European Commission for Justice Internal Affairs and Social Politics promoted the Daphne II program to support victims of rape and abuse, and the Violence and Operative Healthcare Networks (Ve.R.S.O.) project started at the Policlinico “P. Giaccone” University Hospital of Palermo in 2006. Aim: data analysis emerging from 10 years experience of Daphne protocol utilization for the management of sexual assault victims. Methods:…

Class IIa HDACs repressive activities on MEF2-depedent transcription are associated with poor prognosis of ER⁺ breast tumors.

2013

MEF2s transcription factors and class IIa HDACs compose a fundamental axis for several differentiation pathways. Functional relationships between this axis and cancer are largely unexplored. We have found that class IIa HDACs are heterogeneously expressed and display redundant activities in breast cancer cells. Applying gene set enrichment analysis to compare the expression profile of a list of putative MEF2 target genes, we have discovered a correlation between the down-regulation of the MEF2 signature and the aggressiveness of ER(+) breast tumors. Kaplan-Meier analysis in ER(+) breast tumors evidenced an association between increased class IIa HDACs expression and reduced survival. The im…

TRPA1 channel is a cardiac target of mIGF-1/SIRT1 signaling.

2014

Cardiac overexpression of locally acting muscle-restricted (m)IGF-1 and the consequent downstream activation of NAD+-dependent protein deacetylase sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) trigger potent cardiac antioxidative and antihypertrophic effects. Transient receptor potential (TRP) cation channel A1 (TRPA1) belongs to the TRP ion channel family of molecular detectors of thermal and chemical stimuli that activate sensory neurons to produce pain. Recently, it has been shown that TRPA1 activity influences blood pressure, but the significance of TRPA1 in the cardiovascular system remains elusive. In the present work, using genomic screening in mouse hearts, we found that TRPA1 is a target of mIGF-1/SIRT1 sign…

La Unión Europea ante la emergencia climática

2020

From its origins, the Member States of the European Union (EU) have demonstrated the need for strategic energy measures. As it did with the 1952 Coal and Steel Treaty and the 1957 Euratom Treaty, designing a strong economic area, although it was based on the promotion of a decadent and unsustainable energy. Today, we are facing an EU, which climate policy is far from the original one, with a plausible objective: to give priority to energy efficiency while making its own path through the international community, designing key, competitive and sustainable measures, contributing significantly to the new international climate regime under the Paris Agreement. However the adoption of the Eu…

Modulation of P-glycoprotein activity by novel synthetic curcumin derivatives in sensitive and multidrug-resistant T-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemi…

2016

Abstract Background Multidrug resistance (MDR) and drug transporter P-glycoprotein (P-gp) represent major obstacles in cancer chemotherapy. We investigated 19 synthetic curcumin derivatives in drug-sensitive acute lymphoblastic CCRF–CEM leukemia cells and their multidrug-resistant P-gp-overexpressing subline, CEM/ADR5000. Material and methods Cytotoxicity was tested by resazurin assays. Doxorubicin uptake was assessed by flow cytometry. Binding modes of compounds to P-gp were analyzed by molecular docking. Chemical features responsible for bioactivity were studied by quantitative structure activity relationship (QSAR) analyses. A 7-descriptor QSAR model was correlated with doxorubicin uptak…

Functional cysteine-less subunits of the transporter associated with antigen processing (TAP1 and TAP2) by de novo gene assembly

2002

AbstractWithin the adaptive immune system the transporter associated with antigen processing (TAP) plays a pivotal role in loading of peptides onto major histocompatibility (MHC) class I molecules. As a central tool to investigate the structure and function of the TAP complex, we created cysteine-less human TAP subunits by de novo gene synthesis, replacing all 19 cysteines in TAP1 and TAP2. After expression in TAP-deficient human fibroblasts, cysteine-less TAP1 and TAP2 are functional with respect to adenosine triphosphate (ATP)-dependent peptide transport and inhibition by ICP47 from herpes simplex virus. Cysteine-less TAP1 and TAP2 restore maturation and intracellular trafficking of MHC c…

Cytotoxicity of Novel Sulfanilamides Towards Sensitive and Multidrugresistant Leukemia Cells

2014

Novel sulfa Schiff bases were synthesized and characterized by a reaction between aromatic sulfonamides and aromatic aldehydes or heterocyclic ketones in equimolar ratios. Their cytotoxicity was evaluated by the resazurin assay towards human sensitive CCRF-CEM and multidrug-resistant CEM/ADR5000 leukemia cells. Three of the tested compounds viz., 4-(anthracen-9-ylmethyleneamino)-N-(pyrimidin-2-yl)benzenesulfonamide (4), 4-(anthracen-9- ylmethyleneamino)benzenesulfonamide, (5) and 4-((3-phenylallylidene)amino)benzene-sulfonamide, (6) were cytotoxic (IC 50 values: 5.38-19.96 µM). CEM/ADR5000 cells were not cross-resistant to these compounds, indicating activity against otherwise drug-resistan…

On global solutions of the Maxwell-Dirac equations

1987

We prove, for the Maxwell-Dirac equations in 1+3 dimensions, that modified wave operators exist on a domain of small entire test functions of exponential type and that the Cauchy problem, inR+×R3, has a unique solution for each initial condition (att=0) which is in the image of the wave operator. The modification of the wave operator, which eliminates infrared divergences, is given by approximate solutions of the Hamilton-Jacobi equation, for a relativistic electron in an electromagnetic potential. The modified wave operator linearizes the Maxwell-Dirac equations to their linear part.
