Exploring FPGA‐Based Lock‐In Techniques for Brain  Monitoring Applications

Functional near‐infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) systems for e‐health applications usually suffer from poor signal detection, mainly due to a low end‐to‐end signal‐to‐noise ratio of the electronics chain. Lock‐in amplifiers (LIA) historically represent a powerful technique helping to improve performance in such circumstances. Heavy ion SEE studies on three 4-Gbit NAND-flash memory types were performed at the RADEF facility at the University of Jyvaskyla, Finland with particular emphasis on SEFI differentiation. An error classification for complex memory devices is introduced, and respective cross sections are reported.

English Pronunciation Teaching: Four Case Studies from Finland

The present study looks at how English pronunciation teaching practices are like in Finnish schools from the primary to upper secondary level; in particular, which methods are used and which items are emphasised. The study was carried out as focussed observations (Hopkins 2008, p. 89), as classroom observations were considered the best way to achieve the aim of this study. Four EFL teachers were each observed for 6–9 lessons within a period of one week. Presocratic discourse in poetry and prose: The case of Empedocles and Anaxagoras

Abstract This paper explores the differences between poetry and prose in philosophical writing by examining two Pre-Socratic fragments, one in verse and one in prose, that express a very similar thought: Empedocles 59 B 17 Diels/Kranz and Anaxagoras 31 B 8 D./K. Although at first it might seem as though there is a simple division between Empedocles’ opaque and allusive hexameters and Anaxagoras’ sober prose, when we look in detail at the language used by the two authors, a close reading of the passages reveals a more complex picture. Modelling and analysis of the influence of solar spectrum on the efficiency of photovoltaic modules

Abstract The article presents the influence of changes in the solar radiation spectrum distribution on the properties of various photovoltaic modules, with particular emphasis on the scattered component. We compared the relative efficiency of the photovoltaic modules based on various semiconductor absorbers during bright and sunny, and cloudy summer days. Optimization of two-step batch processes and the method of compensation for random error

This paper considers the problem of the optimal setting of controllable variables in two-step processes with quality constraints. The optimal setting minimizes the cost and satisfies quality constraints defined for the final output. The main emphasis is given to processes where it is possible to make intermediate measurements after the first processing step and to utilize these measurements before the control variables in the second step are set. Optimization based on this method of compensation for random error can yield substantially lower cost than does optimization based on a strategy where all variables are fixed before the process starts.
