Second Language Interference during First Language Processing by Arabic-English Bilinguals.

The research investigated whether a bilinguals’ second language (L2) is activated during a task involving only the first language (L1). We tested the hypothesis that the amount of L2 interference can vary across settings, with less interference occurring in testing locations where L2 is rarely used. In Experiment 1, we compared language processing for 50 Arabic–English bilinguals tested in Saudi Arabia and 49 Arabic–English tested in the United States. In the task, participants viewed a picture and judged whether a phoneme presented over headphones was part of the L1 picture name. The results showed no effect of testing location on processing. Lai saglabātu konkurētspēju savā jomā, profesionāļiem ir jāattīsta jomai atbilstošu angļu valodas zināšanu apguve, bet aizvien pieaugošais pieprasījums pēc nozaru angļu valodas apmācībām rada pieprasījumu arī pēc kompetentiem pasniedzējiem un mācību materiāla izstrādātājiem. Šis darbs tika izstrādāts ar mērķi pētīt nozaru angļu valodas mācību materiālu izveides procesu, kā arī, apmācot studentus, radīt oriģinālu mācību materiālu konkrētai Finanšu menedžmenta programmas studentu grupai. Lai izveidotu šo materiālu, tika iegūti kvalitatīvie dati, analizējot nodarbību laikā novērotos procesus. Jaunizveidotais materiāls tika veiksmīgi izmantots praksē.

Tämän tutkielman tarkoituksena on selvittää, kuinka musiikin käyttäminen englannin opetuksessa voi vaikuttaa oppilaiden emootioihin ja motivaatioon. Oman kokemukseni mukaan kieltenopettajat kokevat yläasteikäisten oppilaiden motivoimisen ajoittain haasteelliseksi. Tutkimusta opettajien pedagogisten valintojen vaikutuksesta oppilaiden motivaatioon on kuitenkin tehty rajallisesti. Aikaisempi tutkimus on todennut, että musiikki näyttelee suurta osaa yläasteikäisten nuorten elämässä ja tämä tutkimus käsittelee nimenomaan musiikin potentiaalisia vaikutuksia oppilaiden motivaatioon. If You Get Double the Time: Teaching practices in the “Swedish/English” language subject option in Swedish nine-year compulsory schooling

In Swedish nine-year compulsory schooling, all students are supposed to learn English and at least one additional language, i.e., French, Spanish, or German. As a final option, extra Swedish and/or English classes, often called SvEn, are offered for students who choose not to study another language. The activities in SvEn are unregulated: there are no official instructions for the teachers, no set teaching goals (over and above those for regular Swedish and English classes), and no grading criteria, as students choosing SvEn are not graded in this language choice.
