INTEREST-RELATED EDUCATION TEACHER'S ROLE IN VALUES CREATING
2019
In the past, the professional and private life of the teacher was of equal importance to be a model for the child. Later, these areas were separated, and it was even advisable for the teacher to avoid expressing their values. Adolescents want school to give them understanding of values and relationships. Unlike general education, interest-related education is voluntary. Positive feedback on after-school activities is linked to improvements in school performance. Interest-related education strengthens mental health and the ability to overcome psychological difficulties. Nowadays there are different opinions about where the child's morale develops at home, school or elsewhere. Educational ins…
The significance of relatedness and gene flow on population genetic structure in the subsocial spider Eresus cinnaberinus (Araneae: Eresidae)
1998
Interdemic selection, inbreeding and highly structured populations have been invoked to explain the evolution of cooperative social behaviour in the otherwise solitary and cannibalistic spiders. The family Eresidae consists of species ranging from solitary and intermediate subsocial to species exhibiting fully cooperative social behaviour. In this study we, in a hierarchical analysis, investigated relatedness of putative family clusters, inbreeding and population genetic structure of the subsocial spider Eresus cinnaberinus. Five hierarchical levels of investigation ranging from large scale genetic structure (distances of 250 and 50 km level 1 and 2) over microgeographic structure (20 km 2 …
Food for flight: pre-migratory dynamics of the Lesser Kestrel Falco naumanni.
2014
Capsule The post-reproductive stage of Lesser Kestrel is crucial for migratory fuelling and survival. Aims To describe the summer pre-migratory ecology of the Lesser Kestrel in Sicily and review existing data in Southern Europe. Methods We identified the main summer roosts and then made roost counts every ten days from 2010 to 2012. We used case-sensitive modelling procedures to detect biases in counts (generalized linear mixed models), assess the annual population trends from 2005 to 2012 (TRends and Indices for Monitoring); and to model habitat preferences (generalized linear model). We sampled pellets to describe the birds’ diet during the peak month prior to migration. Results We discov…
The researcher in the field : some notes on qualitative research in mental health
2017
In this published response to five studies in the present special issue, all representing qualitative research in the field of mental health, this research is approached as cultural and social practice. The five studies are looked upon as informative examples of research activity in mental health, and it is asked how that particular field is conceptualised as a form of human activity, how the authors position themselves in relation to the field, why they ask the questions they seek to answer and how epistemic queries concerning knowing and not-knowing manifest themselves and are addressed in the studies. The paper seeks to contribute to the debate on the uses of qualitative methodology in m…
Emocionālā pārdzīvojuma sekmēšana vizuālās mākslas stundās sākumskolas 1. klasē
2018
Sugar moiety has a direct influence on the secondary structure and properties of sturgeon gonadotropin
2009
Sugar moiety has a direct influence on the secondary structure and properties of sturgeon gonadotropin Sturgeon Acipenser güldenstädti Br. gonadotropic hormone (GTH) β-subunit (β-GTH) was selectively chemically deglycosylated (dg) by anhydrous hydrogen fluoride and trifluoromethane sulfonic acid. Two dgβ-GTH molecular forms retaining 35% (dgβ-GTH1) and 13% (dgβ-GTH2) of their initial carbohydrates were obtained. Investigation of the reassociated α-β hybrid dimers (recombinants) α-GTH+dgβ-GTH1 and α-GTH+dgβ-GTH2 showed that the immunoreactivity with antiserum raised against standard GTH dropped by 22.5%. Hybrid dimers were recognised by the standard GTH antibodies, which indicated that the s…
Standardization of islet isolation outcome- A new automatic system to determine pancreatic islet viability
2011
Pancreatic islet transplantation is emerging as a therapeutic approach for patients affected by diabetes. This approach consists of a minimally invasive procedure replacing insulin-producing cells (pancreatic islets). The technique has been proven successful, but limitations have been identified. One of the major challenges of the procedure is the counting of the isolated pancreatic islets, which is currently jeopardized by subjectivity and inaccuracy. Determination of the accurate islet number is a crucial factor in determining the correlation between the isolation product and clinical outcome. In the proposed study, we have developed software capable of objectively evaluating islet number…
Ocular gelling microspheres: in vitro precorneal retention time and drug permeation through reconstituted corneal epithelium.
2008
Purpose: The model drug norfloxacin (NOR)was encapsulated into trehalose (TRH) and hydroxyethylcellulose(NAT) microspheres to obtain a novel gelling ophthalmic delivery system for prolonged release on corneal tissue. Methods: We assessed NOR release from microspheres, prepared by the emulsion-solvent evaporation method. A new in vitro tear turnover model, including inserts containing reconstituted human corneal epithelium (RHC), was designed to evaluate the TRH/NAT microspheres’ precorneal retention time. Bioadhesive properties of TRH/NAT microspheres were validated by using drug-loaded microspheres prepared with gelatine (GLT) commonly used as reference material in adhesion studies. Result…
Single-Center Retrospective Series of Intracranial Aneurysms Treated with the Barricade Coil System: Immediate and Six-Month Results
2020
Abstract Intracranial aneurysms (IAs) are most commonly found at the branch points of large arteries that form the circle of Willis. The prevalence of IAs in the adult population is 1–5%. IAs rupture is associated with subarachnoid haemorrhage (SAH) in 6–8 cases per 100 000 population, causing mortality in 40–50%. Aneurysm treatment is used to prevent rupture or rebleeding (for ruptured IAs). Randomised trials demonstrated the superiority of endovascular treatment (EVT) of ruptured aneurysms with coil systems over surgery. The objective of the study was to evaluate the effectiveness of the Barricade coil system in the treatment of intracranial aneurysms. Detachable platinum coils, since the…
