Restricted compositions and permutations: from old to new Gray codes

2011

Any Gray code for a set of combinatorial objects defines a total order relation on this set: x is less than y if and only if y occurs after x in the Gray code list. Let @? denote the order relation induced by the classical Gray code for the product set (the natural extension of the Binary Reflected Gray Code to k-ary tuples). The restriction of @? to the set of compositions and bounded compositions gives known Gray codes for those sets. Here we show that @? restricted to the set of bounded compositions of an interval yields still a Gray code. An n-composition of an interval is an n-tuple of integers whose sum lies between two integers; and the set of bounded n-compositions of an interval si…

Impact of the erase algorithms on flash memory lifetime

2017

This paper presents a comparative study on the impact of the erase algorithm on flash memory lifetime, to demonstrate how the reduction of overall stress, suffered by memories, will increase their lifetime, thanks to a smart management of erase operations. To this purpose a fixed erase voltage, equal to the maximum value and the maximum time-window, was taken as the reference test; while an algorithm with adaptive voltage levels and the same overall time-window was designed and implemented in order to compare their experimental results. This study was carried out by using an innovative Automated Test Equipment, named Portable-ATE, tailored for Memory Test Chip and designed for performance e…

Design and analysis of non-linear circuit with tunnel diode for hybrid control systems

2018

Electric circuits with tunnel diode's represent a classical example of dynamic systems with nonlinearities, which feature piecewise negative damping and multiple equilibria and, as consequence, nontrivial trajectories in the state-space. In this paper, we describe the experimental design and analysis of an electrical circuit, including a tunnel diode, allowing for a storage behavior with bistable output voltage states - low and high. The system is modeled for simulation and an experimental setup is designed and implemented in order to run a formal verification on different tools, applying a variety of hybrid control methods. The nonlinear diode's characteristic curve is experimentally deter…

Experimental investigation on different rainfall energy harvesting structures

2018

In this paper proposes an experimental comparison between different rainfall harvesting devices and the study of the corresponding electrical rectifying circuit. More in detail, three harvesting structures are considered: the cantilever, the bridge and the floating circle. For each of the proposed structure, different waveforms have been acquired and discussed. The processed data have been compared in order to suggest the best choice for the rectifying circuit, from the simplest one to the most endorsed in the technical literature.

Analytical description of solid particles kinematics due to a fluid flow and application to the depiction of characteristic kinematics in cold sprayi…

2017

Abstract In several multiphase flow applications such as fluidization, thermal spraying, atomization manufacturing and so on, the Newton's law is widely enacted to formulate the particle/fluid kinematic interaction and then to compute particles kinematics. This paper provides analytical solutions of the Newton's law in its time-dependent formulation or simplified formulation, the latter being a reduction of the time dependent problem into a spatial description of the particle motion. It was found that the velocity solution is strictly similar in both cases so that the simplified formulation is viable. The W_ 1 branch of the Lambert's function yields the analytical particle residence time an…

Measurements on partial discharge in on‐site operating power transformer: a case study

2018

This study presents the case study of a substation in-service power transformer referred to the on-site partial discharge (PD) detection and evaluation methods. An original methodology for simultaneous application of three methods is proposed: electrical, acoustic and ultra-high frequency. Transformer is powered by the power grid and no external generator is required according to the proposed methodology. Furthermore, several possibilities of applying these concurrent measurements and benefits of such solution in terms of result interpretation, interference resistance and on-site measurement applicability are indicated. The proposed methodology allows for a fast, accurate and secure PD diag…

Spin Hall magnetoresistance in antiferromagnetic insulators

2020

Antiferromagnetic materials promise improved performance for spintronic applications, as they are robust against external magnetic field perturbations and allow for faster magnetization dynamics compared to ferromagnets. The direct observation of the antiferromagnetic state, however, is challenging due to the absence of a macroscopic magnetization. Here, we show that the spin Hall magnetoresistance (SMR) is a versatile tool to probe the antiferromagnetic spin structure via simple electrical transport experiments by investigating the easy-plane antiferromagnetic insulators $\alpha$-Fe2O3 (hematite) and NiO in bilayer heterostructures with a Pt heavy metal top electrode. While rotating an ext…

An insulating doped antiferromagnet with low magnetic symmetry as a room temperature spin conduit

2020

We report room temperature long-distance spin transport of magnons in antiferromagnetic thin film hematite doped with Zn. The additional dopants significantly alter the magnetic anisotropies, resulting in a complex equilibrium spin structure that is capable of efficiently transporting spin angular momentum at room temperature without the need for a well-defined, pure easy-axis or easy-plane anisotropy. We find intrinsic magnon spin-diffusion lengths of up to 1.5 {\mu}m, and magnetic domain governed decay lengths of 175 nm for the low frequency magnons, through electrical transport measurements demonstrating that the introduction of non-magnetic dopants does not strongly reduce the transport…

Effective strain manipulation of the antiferromagnetic state of polycrystalline NiO

2021

As a candidate material for applications such as magnetic memory, polycrystalline antiferromagnets offer the same robustness to external magnetic fields, THz spin dynamics, and lack of stray field as their single crystalline counterparts, but without the limitation of epitaxial growth and lattice matched substrates. Here, we first report the detection of the average Neel vector orientiation in polycrystalline NiO via spin Hall magnetoresistance (SMR). Secondly, by applying strain through a piezo-electric substrate, we reduce the critical magnetic field required to reach a saturation of the SMR signal, indicating a change of the anisotropy. Our results are consistent with polycrystalline NiO…
