A Beggar, Self-Awareness And Willingness To Help
2008
The present field experiment examines the relationship between self-awareness, violation of personal space and helping behavior. A beggar asking for alms on the streets. To induce the first experimental condition, the state of objective self-awareness, the beggar had a mirror at chest height, suspended from a string round his neck. In the control condition, in place of the mirror, the beggar held a similarly dimensioned piece of cardboard in the same position. Both mirror and cardboard bore the message "A FEW PENNIES THANKS." As concerned the second experimental condition, the beggar either stood still waiting for people to come up to him, or walked toward the people as they approached, th…
La préservation de l'environnement nocturne : les enjeux d'une controverse sociotechnique
2013
This communication explains the birth of an environmental problem, light pollution, understood as a socio-technical controversy. Over forty years, in support of the actor-network approach, it traces the conditions of its emergence, transformation and dissemination to local, national and transnational levels, and through various professional disciplines. Schematically, "environmentalists" uphold a holistic approach of "nocturnité" and define artificial light as a pollutant. Facing them, the "technicist" defend a segmented approach and define artificial light as a nuisance. The implementation of this controversy on the political agenda leads to institutional decisions that grasp it with diffi…
(Ré)concilier éclairage urbain et environnement nocturne : les enjeux d’une controverse sociotechnique
2014
International audience; Our paper explains the birth of an environmental problem, i.e. light pollution, viewed as a socio-technical controversy. Supported by the actor-network approach, it traces over forty years the conditions of its emergence, transformation and dissemination to local, national and transnational levels and through various professional disciplines. Schematically, “environmentalists” uphold a holistic approach of “nocturnality” and define artificial light as a pollutant. Facing them, the “technicist” defends a segmented approach and defines artificial light as a nuisance. The introduction of this controversy into the political agenda leads to institutional decisions that gr…

Points massiques, espace des sphères et « hyperbole »
2015
The use of massic points permits to define a branch of a hyperbola in the Euclidean plane using a Rational Quadratic Bézier Curve. In the space of spheres, a circular cone, a circular cylinder, a torus, a pencil of spheres or a Dupin cyclide is represented by a conic. If the kind of the pencil is Poncelet or if the canal surface is a circular cone, a spindle torus, a spindle or a horned Dupin cyclide, the curve is a circle which is seen as a hyperbole. The limit points of the pencil or the singular points of the Dupin cyclide can be determined using the asymptotes of this circle. In this article, we show that the use of massic points simplifies the modelization of these pencils or these Dup…
2015
This article examines the politicization processes of ordinary digital practices as well as its role in the constitution of new protester groups. Its interest is also represented by the construction of an original theoretical framework aiming to underline the complementarity between different theoretical perspectives. By encouraging a connection between the sociology of social movements, the critical Theory and the studies of “information practices”, the author elaborates a new approach to mobilisation focused on the emergence of a more and more citizen's engaged position with regard to the “information world” and not only based on militant uses of the media. While claiming a critical appro…

Surface canal, squelette et espace des sphères
2016
A canal surface is the envelope of a one-parameter familly of oriented spheres. With the knowledge of center an radius functions associated to it, it is easy to compute a parametrisation of the surface. In this article, we study the inverse operation, which is the search for the spheres in the canal surface. By selecting a point on the boundary and using the sphere space, we estimate the maximal sphere tangent with this point and a second point on the boundary. Furthermore, we estimate a second sphere, which allows to build the characteiristic circle of the canal surface. So this article consists in a new approach of the skeletonization of an object. Indeed, a skeleton is a shape representa…
