Micro-Raman spectroscopic characterization of a CR-39 detector.
2013
Characterization by micro-Raman spectroscopy of polymeric materials used as nuclear track detectors reveals physico-chemical and morphological information on the material's molecular structure. In this work, the nuclear track detector poly(allyl diglycol carbonate), or Columbia Resin .39 (CR-39), was characterized according to the fluence of alpha particles produced by a 226Ra source and chemical etching time. Therefore, damage of the CR-39 chemical structure due to the alpha-particle interaction with the detector was analyzed at the molecular level. It was observed that the ionization and molecular excitation of the CR-39 after the irradiation process entail cleavage of chemical bonds and…
Atrane complexes chemistry as a tool for obtaining trimodal UVM-7-like porous silica
2018
[EN] The use of atrane complexes as hydrolytic precursors enables the homogeneous incorporation of manganese (25Si/Mn48) throughout the porous walls of the nanoparticles of a surfactant-templated bimodal mesoporous silica (UVM-7). The subsequent leaching of the manganese nanodomains allows adding controlled microporosity to the host silica framework. The resulting final silica material presents three pore systems structured at different length scales: interparticle textural-type macroporosity (ca. 43.2nm), ordered intraparticle mesoporosity (ca. 2.63nm; after template removal), and well-dispersed microporosity (< 2nm; as consequence of the lixiviation of the Mn-rich domains). The good dispe…
The detection efficiency of the clover Ge-detectors array at the RITU-GREAT facility
2015
Absolute detection efficiency depending upon its position along the beam line is determined for three germanium detectors, that are part of the GREAT spectrometer at the RITU separator focal plane. The efficiency is determined for an energy range from 80 keV to 1400 keV for all three detectors as an array and also individually using digital electronics. The optimal position for the detector array has been defined for two configurations of the GREAT spectrometer: with planar detector and without it. The obtained results have been compared with three references: a simulation prepared especially for this setup by another student, a previous study that was carried out by applying analogue elect…
Effectiveness of Preservative Treatments on Coloured Ruditic Building Stones
2009
: The dark grey Breccia di Billiemi and the Ammonitico Rosso of Piana degli Albanesi, two coloured stones widely used in monuments both outdoor and indoor in Sicily, undergo significant decay as effect of weathering: colour change and development of surface microcracks which affect not only the chromatic aspect but also the state of aggregation. In a previous study (Fracture and Failure of Natural Building Stones, 2006, Springer, Dordrecht, The Netherlands: 329), such effects were successfully reproduced on laboratory samples by means of artificial accelerated weathering and the different response of veins and grains to the ageing agents was related to the microstructure of stones. In this…
Más allá de Marx: postobrerismo y posmarxismo. Una revisión de los fundamentos teóricos de la multitud y el pueblo
2018
The article is a synthetic essay that exposes the main theoretical lines of the postmarxist approach of Laclau and Mouffe, on the one hand, and the autonomist post-operaism of Negri, Hardt, Virno, etc., on the other hand. These theories are conceived as attempts to rationalize current political bets by various political sectors and social movements. It analyzes both argumentative strategies from «orthodox» Marxism and the structure / superstructure relationship; and the forms of constitution of new subjectivities. It compares the theoretical fundamentals of hegemonic articulations and counter-power experiences. It discusses, likewise, the scope and limitations of the categories of «people» …
Exploring the material mediation of dialogic space : A qualitative analysis of professional learning in initial teacher education based on reflective…
2019
This study addresses the crucial relationship between theory and practice as a key feature of professional learning in initial teacher education. The context for the study is an EU-funded intensive programme drawing on different dimensions of insideness and outsideness and artsbased pedagogies in response to the diversity of education today. The data for the study comes from self-selected pages from preservice teacher participants’ reflective sketchbooks. As a methodological approach that unifies the sensuous and cognitive this study suggests that reflective sketchbooks document the dialogic encounters of students whilst also providing a material space that can itself become a form of dialo…
Delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) management: present state of the art
2016
This paper reviews existing theories explaining the delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) phenomenon. The authors describe the main symptoms of DOMS and their relation to different kinds of training strategies, and discuss the most popular muscle pain reduction interventions such as stretching, diet, dietary supplements, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), cryotherapy and cold water immersion, concurrent training, and the repeated bout effect.
Peripheral Nerve Responses to Muscle Stretching: A Systematic Review
2021
Stretching is commonly used to increase range of motion and flexibility. Therefore, investigations are usually oriented towards the muscle-tendon unit. Limited evidence exists regarding potential effects of stretching on peripheral nerves which lie within muscles. The objective of this investigation will be to elucidate the responses of peripheral nerves to stretching. A literature search was performed using the following databases: Scopus, NLM Pubmed and ScienceDirect. Studies regarding the effects of stretching protocols on responses of peripheral nerves were retrieved for investigation. The NHLBI tool was used for quality assessment. Outcomes included nerve stiffness, nerve displacement,…
Effects of marathon fatigue on running kinematics and economy
2007
International audience; The influence of marathon fatigue on both running kinematics and economy was investigated with 8 subjects. The measurements included a treadmill test at 3 steady submaximal speeds performed before and after the marathon. One complete left leg cycle was videotaped at 100 Hz from the left side at each speed. The analysis included contact time (braking and push-off') and flight time as well as displacements and angular velocities of the left hip and knee. This analysis was complemented by the measurements of the electromyographic (EMG) activity of the gastrocnemius muscle at each running velocity, and energy expenditure (E) of the last 30.s at the 2 slowest speeds. The …
