The motivation behind our research was the rapid growth and business wins of world-class Finnish game companies, like Supercell, as well as the success of other game companies in Finland. Along with other cultural organizations, newspapers, through waves of digital disruption, have become subject to a dominant narrative of crisis. But newspapers have long participated in change. Visibility without voice: Media witnessing irregular migrants in BBC online news journalism

In the analysis of journalistic representation of irregular migration to Europe, rather little attention is given to the variation of modes and genres of journalism. Most studies focus on text in ‘old media’ and the news genre. This article analyses affordances of different modalities and genres of online journalism in framing irregular migrants. Media framing in BBC online news coverage of a mediatised conflict in Spain, defined as a ‘migration crisis’, is analysed with multimodal social semiotics. This qualitative interview study focuses on CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) teacher agency in three European contexts, Austria, Finland and Andalusia, Spain. The aim of the study is to understand how individual CLIL teachers experience their agency when encountering challenges in their work and to demonstrate the multifaceted quality of their agency. First of all, the stabilization of writing practices of digital documents. Secondly, the evaluation of these devices. We want to address this last point in this article. What is it possible to assess in this field? There are many dimensions of evaluation, depending on the angle chosen. We limit ourselves to an approach focused on evaluating the human-computer interface. The chosen testing ground is a website for law studies, developed by the University of Burgundy's further education section.

Translingual quoting in journalism : behind the scenes of Swiss television newsrooms

This chapter focuses on translingual quoting (TQ), i.e. the subprocess of news-writing by which utterances from sources are both quoted and translated. Analyses of journalists’ mental and material activities suggest conceptualizing TQ as a complex and dynamic activity in which journalists’ individual and collective (e.g., institutional) language awareness, knowledge, and practices interact with multi-layered contexts of text production. Emile Zola’s article entitled I accuse...! (1898), accusing the French government of anti-Semitism, has been considered since its publication as a decisive voice defending not only the rights of a particular Jew, but also, in a larger context, truth, morality and justice. However, the “Jewish question” was already important for Zola before writing this text, and some subjects concerning Jews and their social perception occur as well in the Rougon-Macquart cycle as in journalistic chronicles written by the author. The paper examines the ways in which the “Jewish question” appears in Zola’s various texts.
