Synthesis of bodinieric acids A and B, both C-18 and C-19-functionalized abietane diterpenoids: DFT study of the key aldol reaction

2020

[EN] The first synthesis of C-18- and C-19-bifunctionalized abietane diterpenoids, bodinieric (or callicapoic) acids, via an aldol reaction has been developed. This key aldol reaction was very sensitive to steric hindrance. This fact has been studied by deuterium exchange experiments and DFT methods. Optimization of this reaction led to the synthesis of anti-inflammatory bodinieric acids A and B, starting from abietic acid

Azide Binding Controlled by Steric Interactions in Second Sphere. Synthesis, Crystal Structure, and Magnetic Properties of [Ni II 2 (L)(μ 1,1 -N 3 )]…

2016

International audience; The dinuclear Ni-II complex [Ni-2(L-2)][ClO4](2) (3) supported by the 28-membered hexaaza-dithiophenolate macro-cycle (L-2)(2-) binds the N-3(-) ion specifically end-on yielding [Ni-2(L-2)(mu(1,1)-N-3)] [ClO4] (7) or [Ni-2(L-2)(mu(1,1)-N-3)][BPh4] (8), while the previously reported complex [Ni2L1(mu(1,3)-N-3)][ClO4] (2) of the 24-membered macrocycle (L-1)(2-) coordinates it in the end-to-end fashion. A comparison of the X-ray structures of 2, 3, and 7 reveals the form-selective binding of complex 3 to be a consequence of its preorganized, channel-like binding pocket, which accommodates the azide anion via repulsive CH center dot center dot center dot pi interactions …

Exchange Rates and Stock Prices in the MENA countries: What Role for Oil?

2011

This paper considers the linkage between stock prices and exchange rates in four MENA (Middle East and North Africa) emerging markets. In contrast to the existing evidence that uses a global market index to uncover such a relationship it is found that for the sample countries oil prices emerge as the dominant factor in the above relationship. The paper considers the presence of regime shifts and evidence is found of cointegration only for the period following the 1999 oil price shock. Readjustment towards equilibrium in each stock market occurs via oil price changes. Finally, a number of robustness checks are performed and persistence profiles produced. Wiley Online Library

THE KEY ROLE OF LIQUIDITY FLUCTUATIONS IN DETERMINING LARGE PRICE CHANGES

2005

Recent empirical analyses have shown that liquidity fluctuations are important for understanding large price changes of financial assets. These liquidity fluctuations are quantified by gaps in the order book, corresponding to blocks of adjacent price levels containing no quotes. Here we study the statistical properties of the state of the limit order book for 16 stocks traded at the London Stock Exchange (LSE). We show that the time series of the first three gaps are characterized by fat tails in the probability distribution and are described by long memory processes.

The effect of different vigour olive clones on growth, dry matter partitioning and gas exchange under water deficit

2012

Abstract In the last decade, high-density olive planting systems have been developed to facilitate less costly mechanical harvesting and pruning by using straddle harvesters. High-density orchards allow faster production since the first crop of fruit starts a few years after planting. In high-density orchards the control of tree size is essential. It is possible to control the vigour and size of the tree by selecting suitable cultivars, by choosing rootstocks capable of controlling scion vigour and, finally, by applying deficit irrigation to reduce plant vegetative growth. Knowledge of tree water requirements is needed for precise irrigation scheduling. In this study, the dwarfing capacity …

Pianificazione strategica tra sviluppo locale e policentrismo: alcune evidenze empiriche sul caso siciliano

2009

Strategic planning, local development and policentrism: empirical evidence for Sicily The aim of this paper is the analysis of metropolitan strategic planning in Sicily. Urban areas are becoming important units for territorial cohesion policy and strategic planning represents more and more an important policy instrument. Evidence of a policentric pattern is tested across 30 strategic plans carried out by Sicilian cities in order to derive useful insights for policy implications. Methods and Results This study uses multidimensional scaling and rank-size regressions across Sicilian Functional Urban Areas (FUA) as well as descriptive information drawn from strategic plans in order to identify …

The Strategic Scorecards: An Instrumentation of the Strategic Management Accounting. Exploration of a Concept, Instrumentation and Results from a Fre…

2003

I describe in this study a generic model of strategic management accounting instrumentation: the strategic scorecards. In order to build this generic model, I review in the existing literature the concepts of Strategic Control and Strategic Management Accounting (SMA). I present the characteristics of these concepts and analyse the reasons why they emerged. I show how the strategic scorecards are an instrumentation of the SMA in studying the most widely known and esteemed scorecards: the Balanced Scorecards (Kaplan & Norton, 1996) and Skandia's Navigator (Edvinsson & Malone, 1997). I then clarify the outlines for a generic model of strategic scorecard and disclose an "a priori" typology of …

Is the Eco-label EU Decision for hard coverings really capable of capturing the environmental performances of the marble productive chain? A field ve…

2014

Purpose This work intends to show whether the Eco-label EU Decision for hard coverings, in which marble is contemplated among hard coverings as a natural product, is really capable of capturing the environmental performances of the marble productive chain, in other words whether it is actually viable for the natural products, like marble. Methods After a preliminary critical analysis of the suitability formarble of the current EU Decision (2009/607/EC), a classical life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology has been applied on the field to the marble “Perlato di Sicilia.” More specifically, the whole productive chain of a couple of firms treating the “Perlato di Sicilia” marble has been examin…

Structure, Effects and Deficiencies of an Entrepreneurial Ecosystem: the Spanish Case

2017

In this paper, we rely on the Spanish GEM Project to analyze the basic conditions that shape the profiles of the Spanish regional entrepreneurial ecosystem and to configure which aspects are given and which should be met in order for that ecosystem to be considered as a tool to support entrepreneurship and not just a wasteland. Although some media are incorporated, the nutrients needed for germination are not included.

Spain: Putting the Pieces of the Sport System in Place — The Role of the Sport Federations

2017

This chapter examines the functions and characteristics of the Spanish sport federations, and the way in which their actions are driven by the principles of the National Sports Act. In order to do this, the chapter offers an overview of the Spanish sport system in terms of structure, steering, support and governance, as well as a reflection on how the traditional Spanish strong public culture is reflected in sport. Focusing on sport federations, the chapter explains the way in which they interact with the rest of the actors in the sport sector and it offers an analysis of their characteristics and functions. The chapter ends with a section that includes some strategies and perspectives stem…
