Bridging Heritage and Tourist UX: A Socially-Driven Perspective

2016

The paper illustrates the potential of smart-phones as a medium of exchange of memories and experiences. Our application aims at providing diverse types of cultural user experience: to enable tourists to explore new places from a social-driven perceptive; to support new forms of connection and interaction between users and information (data exchange, contents sharing, feedback); to compose interactive narrative conveying the richness of information of interest to the user; to allow users to experience the narrative and underlying physical environment as a mixed-reality experience while allowing for deeper, context-specific exploration at any time through AR system.

Network Analysis of Platform Ecosystems: The Case of Internet of Things Ecosystem

2015

Software platform providers are often seen as the cornerstone of their business ecosystem, where the other ecosystem players utilize the platform’s standardized components together with complementary components for making applications. These platforms are also becoming a cornerstone of the emerging Internet of Things (IoT) business ecosystem comprised of the companies who provide Internet-enabled devices, applications, connectivity solutions, and the platforms for the IoT usage. While a number of enabling technologies for IoT is available, the question remains what kind of ecosystem emerges around IoT platform providers and whether this ecosystem is evolving in line with the theoretical mod…

XBRL

2007

This paper describes the main contributions in relation with the develop of an XBRL (Extensible Business Reporting Language) taxonomy proposed by the PRISMA research group at University UNAB. This taxonomy has been developed for public institutions in Colombia. This taxonomy is based on the information exchange of financial information. It is also described the creation of a wiki system which includes real information of existing XBRL projects in the world and the creation of a demostration center of XBR reports.

Encapsulation of Xenon by a Self-Assembled Fe4L6 Metallosupramolecular Cage

2015

We report (129)Xe NMR experiments showing that a Fe4L6 metallosupramolecular cage can encapsulate xenon in water with a binding constant of 16 M(-1). The observations pave the way for exploiting metallosupramolecular cages as economical means to extract rare gases as well as (129)Xe NMR-based bio-, pH, and temperature sensors. Xe in the Fe4L6 cage has an unusual chemical shift downfield from free Xe in water. The exchange rate between the encapsulated and free Xe was determined to be about 10 Hz, potentially allowing signal amplification via chemical exchange saturation transfer. Computational treatment showed that dynamical effects of Xe motion as well as relativistic effects have signific…

Electrodialysis for wastewater treatment—Part I: Fundamentals and municipal effluents

2020

Abstract Selectivity, high recovery, and chemical-free operation are strengths of electrodialysis. Different configurations have been proposed for several applications. Effluents from municipal wastewater treatment plants (including sludge and supernatants), desalination plants, and animal farms can be treated for recovering water, nutrients, salts, and acids/bases. Although many applications are technoeconomically feasible and competitive with other zero liquid discharge systems, only a few real plants have been installed. However, the research is currently very active, thus paving the way for a widespread use at large scale in the next future.

Electrodialysis for wastewater treatment-part II: Industrial effluents

2020

Abstract Electrodialysis and related processes have huge potential in the treatment of effluents from a variety of industrial processes. They can recover water and other valuable products, including heavy metal ions, acids and bases, nutrients, and organics. In recent years, novel and improved systems have been continuously developed as a result of research in the field, showing that the (near) zero liquid discharge approach can be affordable in several industrial applications. A larger market share is expected in the near future.

From Land Reform to Hyperinflation: The Zimbabwean Experience of 1997-2008

2018

This article has for objective to contribute to the understanding of the Zimbabwean hyperinflation. The agrarian reform announced in November, 1997 is at the origin of this hyperinflation. This led to a massive outflow of capital and a disruption in the production that cause over several years the degradation of the foreign accounts, and a trend depreciation of the Zimbabwean dollar. The depreciation, via the increase of the costs in the import, cause the strong increase in prices. The long-lasting increase in prices have, subsequently, lead practice of price indexation on the foreign exchange rate. These phenomena of indexation not only fed the inflationary process, but also led to the col…

Separation of 90Nb from zirconium target for application in immuno-PET

2014

Abstract Fast progressing immuno-PET asks to explore new radionuclides. One of the promising candidates is 90Nb. It has a half-life of 14.6 h that allows visualizing and quantifying biological processes with medium and slow kinetics, such as tumor accumulation of antibodies and antibodies fragments or drug delivery systems and nanoparticles. 90Nb exhibits a positron branching of 53% and an average kinetic energy of emitted positrons of E mean =0.35 MeV. Currently, radionuclide production routes and Nb V labeling techniques are explored to turn this radionuclide into a useful imaging probe. However, efficient separation of 90Nb from irradiated targets remains in challenge. Ion exchange based…

The London Stock Exchange: Strategic Corporate Governance Restructuring After Demutualization

2014

International audience; This study uses the London Stock Exchange (LSE), forced to demutualize due to major changes in its business environment, notably due to increased competition and technological advances, as field experiment to study corporate governance restructuring to adapt to new market conditions. The LSE improved its financial situation after demutualization and is an example of successful corporate governance restructuring. The LSE significantly restructured the composition of its board of directors following demutualization. The number of exchange members on the LSE board decreased after demutualization while the number of independent directors increased, pointing to a more “mo…
