El comercio exterior de la Unión Europea: Una desagregación regional.

La culminación del proceso de integración europea, con la creación de una única divisa para doce de los países miembros, exige que el comercio exterior de la Unión Europea (UE) sea considerado de una forma unitaria. En este trabajo se analizan los resultados de la modelización de las exportaciones de la UE hacia otras áreas en proceso de integración como NAFTA, Asia-Pacífico y Mercosur, que reciben más del 50 por 100 de las exportaciones de la UE. La utilización de las elasticidades renta y precio de las exportaciones permite obtener una primera aproximación a la influencia de las variables explicativas en este comercio. ismael@uv.es

Molecular mechanisms of endomembrane trafficking in plants

Abstract Endomembrane trafficking is essential for all eukaryotic cells. The best-characterized membrane trafficking organelles include the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), Golgi apparatus, early and recycling endosomes, multivesicular body, or late endosome, lysosome/vacuole, and plasma membrane. Although historically plants have given rise to cell biology, our understanding of membrane trafficking has mainly been shaped by the much more studied mammalian and yeast models. Determinants of Italian agri-food exports in non-EU Mediterranean Partner Countries: An empirical investigation through a gravity model approach

The aim of this paper is to lay emphasis on the main factors (economic, historical, structural, etc.) that affect Italian agri-food exports in the non-EU Mediterranean Partner Countries (MPCs). The authors estimate a gravity equation including some of the main variables found in the reference literature useful to highlight the main factors which influence the bilateral exchanges. The results show that the variables traditionally included in the gravity equation present the expected sign. An Epidemiological Study to Investigate Links between Atmospheric Pollution from Farming and SARS-CoV-2 Mortality.

Exposure to atmospheric particulate matter and nitrogen dioxide has been linked to SARS-CoV-2 infection and death. We hypothesized that long-term exposure to farming-related air pollutants might predispose to an increased risk of COVID-19-related death. To test this hypothesis, we performed an ecological study of five Italian Regions (Piedmont, Lombardy, Veneto, Emilia-Romagna and Sicily), linking all-cause mortality by province (administrative entities within regions) to data on atmospheric concentrations of particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10) and ammonia (NH3), which are mainly produced by agricultural activities. Idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) is a devastating disease characterized by the proliferation of myofibroblasts and the accumulation of extracellular matrix (ECM) in the lungs. TGF-β1 is the major profibrotic cytokine involved in IPF and is responsible for myofibroblast proliferation and differentiation and ECM synthesis. αB-crystallin is constitutively expressed in the lungs and is inducible by stress, acts as a chaperone and is known to play a role in cell cytoskeleton architecture homeostasis. The Saccharomyces cerevisiae Start repressor Whi5, the functional analogue of mammalian pRB, shuttles between the nucleus and the cytoplasm throughout the cell cycle: enters into the nucleus at the end of mitosis and remains nuclear until Start. We studied the mechanisms involved in this spatial regulation. The nuclear import depends on the beta-karyopherins of the classical import pathway Kap95 and Cse1. Whi5 contains a monopartite and a bipartite classical NLS localized in its N-terminal region which are functionally redundant. Survivin’s Dual Role: An Export’s View

Survivin is proposed to function as a mitotic regulator and an apoptosis inhibitor during development and pathogenesis. As such, survivin has aroused keen interest in disparate areas of basic and translational research. Survivin acts as a subunit of the chromosomal passenger complex (CPC), composed of the mitotic kinase Aurora-B, Borealin and INCENP, and is essential for proper chromosome segregation and cytokinesis.
