International audience; The recently proposed spectral shear interferometry and the well-known z-scan techniques were employed for the determination of the nonlinear refractive index n2 of CS2, toluene and fused silica. The determined n2 values by both techniques were found to be in very good agreement. In addition, the role of the repetition rate of the laser is also investigated revealing its importance for the correct determination of both the size and the sign of the nonlinearity.

A cell for measuring coefficients of diffusion and self-diffusion by tracer techniques is described. The cell consists of two Teflon disks and is of the rotational shearing type. The amount of polymer is minimal (about 0.1 ml. for both components). Labeled and unlabeled fractionated polymethacrylate of identical molecular weight distribution was used to determine diffusion coefficients in benzene and toluene. The classical optical measurement is impossible, for these solvents exhibit a refraction index very close to that of polymethacrylate. Abstract We use two-dimensional numerical simulations to study the deformation style and the formation of nappes during the shortening of basement–cover systems with half-grabens. We perform simulations with only linear and power-law viscous rheology, and also thermo-mechanical simulations with viscoelastoplastic rheology and temperature-dependent viscosities. The accumulated, area-averaged strain is calculated for the sediments, es, and for the basement, eb, to quantify the deformation style. Tonalite sill emplacement at an oblique plate boundary: northeastern margin of the Bohemian Massif

Abstract A tonalitic sill has been examined at the Variscan transpressive boundary of the Lugian and Silesian plates at the NE margin of the Bohemian Massif. A structural, petrological and geochronological study reveals that it was emplaced syn-tectonically with major ductile shearing in lower crustal rocks. Magmatic and pre-rheological critical melt percentage (RCMP) fabrics are concordant with the hanging wall structures but discordant with those of the footwall. The AMS study shows the predominance of flattening strain at the margins and plane strain fabrics in the core. The paper contains an overview of common failure modes, monitoring techniques, approaches for diagnostics, and an overview of typical maintenance actions. Although many papers have been written in this area before, this paper puts an emphasis on recent developments and limits the scope to induction machines and drive trains applied in applications located offshore.

Organometallic N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complexes with intercalating bis-naphthalimide ligands were prepared and evaluated biologically. Cytotoxic effects against tumor cells or bacteria were strongly ligand dependent with minor influence of the metal (Ag, Ru, Rh, Au) centers. Complex 8b with a rhodium(I) NHC moiety was studied in more detail for its DNA interacting properties in comparison to the metal free ligand. These studies showed a good DNA binding pattern with some preference for the telomeric quadruplex structure hTelo. Structural, thermochronological and metamorphic data are used to elucidate the tectonic nature and evolution of the ductile extensional Messaria shear zone and the associated brittle Messaria and Fanari detachment faults, which exhumed their footwall from mid-crustal depths on the island of Ikaria in the Aegean. Thermobarometric data indicate that the Messaria shear zone formed at 350–>400 °C and 3–4 kbar (i.e. at a depth of c . 15 km). The aim of the present study was to examine associations between parenting and child behaviour problems in two neighbouring countries with subtle, yet apparent cultural differences. Participants were mothers and fathers of preschool-age children from Latvia and Lithuania. Parents completed a measure of child-rearing attitudes and reported on their child’s internalizing and externalizing behaviours. In both countries, parental warmth was negatively associated with child behaviour problems, and punishment orientation was positively associated. This article analyzed perceptions of neighborhood violence of Spanish adolescents (N = 1,015) from authoritative, authoritarian, indulgent, and neglectful families, and its association with three sets of developmental outcomes (psychological, behavioral, and academic). Tests of main and interactive effects were conducted to answer research questions regarding the potential moderating role of perceived neighborhood violence on the relationship between parenting styles and developmental outcomes.
