Lactate Threshold Training Program on Patients with Multiple Sclerosis: A Multidisciplinary Approach

Physical activity could play a key role in improving the quality of life, particularly in patients with nervous system diseases such as multiple sclerosis (MS). Through lactacid anaerobic training, this study aims to investigate the effects at a bio-psycho-physical level to counteract the chronic fatigue associated with the pathology, and to improve mental health at a psychological and neurotrophic level. High Turnover Catalase Activity of a Mixed‐Valence Mn II Mn III Complex with Terminal Carboxylate Donors

The neutral dimanganese(II,III) complex [Mn-2(BCPMP)-(OAc)(2)] [1; BCPMP3- = 2,6-bis({(carboxymethyl)[(1-pyridyl)-methyl] amino} methyl)-4-methylphenolato] has been synthesized and characterized. The complex contains two terminal carboxylate donors. Complex 1 was found to be an effective catalyst for the disproportionation of H2O2 with high catalytic rate and a turnover number of 7500, the highest turnover reported to date for a catalase mimic. Electrospun poly-l-lactic acid (PLLA) nanofiber mats carrying surface amine groups, previously introduced by nitrogen atmospheric pressure nonequilibrium plasma, are embedded into aqueous solutions of oligomeric acrylamide-end capped AGMA1, a biocompatible polyamidoamine with arg-gly-asp (RGD)-reminiscent repeating units. The resultant mixture is finally cured giving PLLA-AGMA1 hydrogel composites that absorb large amounts of water and, in the swollen state, are translucent, soft, and pliable, yet as strong as the parent PLLA mat. Thermal Decomposition and Combustion of Microwave Pre-Treated Biomass Pellets

The objective of the study was to investigate a more effective use of commercially available biomass pellets (wheat straw, wood, peat) using microwave pretreatment to improve heat production. Pellets were pretreated using the originally designed microwave torrefaction device. The effects of microwave (mw) pretreatment were quantified, providing measurements of the weight loss and elemental composition of pellets and estimating the effect of mw pretreatment on their porosity, surface area and calorific values at pretreatment temperatures of T = 448–553 K. Comparing different processing methods in apple slice drying. Part 1. Performance of microwave, hot air and hybrid methods at constant temperatures

The drying curves, energy efficiency and colour variations of sliced apples dried at various temperatures and using different techniques were evaluated, i.e. microwave (35, 55 and 65 °C), hot air (35, 55, 65 and 75 °C) and combination of both (65 °C). The microwave (MW) tests also included comparison between air recirculation and continuous inlet of fresh air. Each drying method was evaluated at a fixed temperature level by means of a control system based on infrared thermography.
