Assessment as a Possibility for Individual Learning and Success in Contextual Pedagogical Learning Environment
2015
One of the most significant current discussions in the field of education is the rapidly changing world around us. So far, however, there has been little discussion about teacher education and its role in this changing process. We are slowly moving from constructivist learning theory towards to sociocultural theory of learning where learning is according to Kumpulainen, Krokfors, Lipponen, Tissari, Hilppio and Rajala [1] viewed as a holistic and dynamic process, in which the individual grows into the culture of the community, its values, practices, and artifacts. The research project, introduced in this paper, focuses on transformational pedagogic and the questions of assessment in the lear…
Student-generated instructional videos facilitate learning through positive emotions
2016
The central focus of this study is a learning method in which university students produce instructional videos about the content matter as part of their learning process, combined with other learning assignments. The rationale for this is to promote a more multimodal pedagogy, and to provide students opportunities for a more learner-centred, motivating, active, engaging and productive role in their learning process. As such we designed a ‘video course’ where the students needed to produce an instructional video which could be used for university teaching. In addition to producing the video, the students needed to write a literature review of the topic of the video and a learning journal. At…
The case of literacy motivation : Playful 3D immersive learning environments and problem-focused education for blended digital storytelling
2018
The University of Patras' Library Services designed and offered to primary and secondary schools the pilot educational program “From the Ancient to the Modern Tablets”, featuring immersive multimedia learning experiences about the book history. The pilot program consisted of three stages: a playful library tour, followed by an interactive game-based digital storytelling activity with game elements, and a collaborative creative reflective hands-on activity. Utilizing the avatar psychology power, the visualization and simulation affordances of 3D immersive learning environments and the appeal of storytelling and game-based learning, the “gamified” blended narrative on the book evolution enabl…
Scripting as a pedagogical method to guide collaborative writing : university students' reflections
2020
A collaboration script is a set of instructions used to improve collaborative learning among students in technology-enhanced environments. Previously, university students’ perspective has been under-represented in the study on collaboration scripts. In this article, we focus on understanding students’ experiences in a scripted collaborative writing task, especially from the perspective of following the script. The study was conducted among undergraduate students (N = 91) taking a master-level educational science course at one university each in Finland and Belgium. Divided into 25 groups, each with three to five members, the students worked on collaborative writing tasks. During their share…
Visiones del Profesorado de Primaria sobre Materiales Didácticos Digitales
2019

New TEL Environments for Vocational Education – Teacher’s Instructional Perspective
2015
Modern vocational education is increasingly taking place in new technology-enhanced learning (TEL) settings. On the one hand, vocational education can benefit from the opportunities of technological development. On the other hand, such technologies may create new challenges for teachers. Therefore, there is a particular need to pay more attention to the dialogic pedagogical approaches in which teaching should be seen as a dialogical practice involving teacher-student interactions that create contextual opportunities for teachers to trigger students’ learning in new TEL settings. This article reports on an exploratory study about the different ways in which teachers’ instructional activities…
E-Learning in Pharmacology and Pharmacy
2011
Computer-based learning facilitates a shift from externally controlled to self-directed learning. Universities and other educational institutions are challenged by these developments and must react appropriately to meet the requirements of education. The term e-learning has been coined to describe a wide range of diverse learning and teaching strategies based on the use of electronic devices. Recently developed concepts in the science of education and learning provide appropriate frameworks for novel e-learning scenarios. The present review introduces strategies and concepts for the implementation of e-learning in academic and non-academic programs and gives an overview of current e-learnin…
