Summary Objective This study aimed to investigate the acute effects of a short-duration isolated static stretching or combined with dynamic plyometric exercises on the performance of some anaerobic parameters (strength, jumping and sprinting). Methods During three distinct sessions and after a standardized warm-up, 15 participants randomly performed static stretching exercises alone, static stretching combined with plyometric exercises and no stretch. Total stretch duration was 20 seconds long per muscle group (quadriceps, hamstrings and calf muscles). Tests included maximal quadriceps muscle strength, countermovement jumps and 15 m sprints. Cost-efficacy of oral triptans in the treatment of acute migraine

SummaryThe objective of this study was to compare the efficiency of oral triptans currently used in the treatment of acute migraine in Spain. Using a decision analytic model, a cost-efficacy analysis was performed from the payer's perspective. Efficacy was assessed in terms of sustained pain-free patients, with data extracted from a recent meta-analysis of clinical trials. Chest-related and central nervous system-related adverse events were also considered. A series of discotic liquid crystals based on completely acylated macrocyclic oligoamines (azacrowns) has been synthesized. Discotic mesophases could be very highly stabilized by making use of an increased steric hindrance, caused by supplemental lateral meta-substituents which were introduced into the cinnamic acids used as the acylation agents. Employing this method yields compounds exhibiting hexagonal mesophases over a very broad range of more than 300°. It is shown that the properties of ATPase (EC 3.6.1.3) of Micrococcus luteus depend only to some extent on the state of the membrane to which it is attached. Its interaction with the membrane appears to be largely controlled by polar forces. It is shown, however, that the UV-sensitivity of the membrane-bound ATPase is also significantly influenced by the state of membrane lipids.

Abstract A new model for the photochromic effect in sodium nitroprusside Na 2 [Fe(CN) 5 (NO)]·2H 2 O based on the concept of the pseudo-Jahn–Teller effect is proposed. The model takes into account the electron transfer from the Fe 2+ ion to the π ∗ orbitals of the NO-ligand as well as the vibronic mixing of three electronic states of the Fe–NO fragment through the non-symmetric and full symmetric modes. The problem is solved within the adiabatic approximation.
