This research aims to analyze recruitment by quintas, Spanish word for recruitment levies by lot, in the city of Valencia and the townships included in its jurisdictional area. The analyzed period began in 1717 with the first levie decreted by king Philip V once the War of Spanish Succession was over. Applied this levie in the kingdom of Valencia, this was the first application of levies by lot. The closing year for the reported period up to 1762, whith the last levy made by king Charles III before the establishment of the annual periodicity for the recruitment process. DNA barcoding facilitates many evolutionary and ecological studies, including the examination of the dietary diversity of herbivores. In this study, we present a survey of ecological associations between herbivorous beetles and host plants from seriously threatened European steppic grasslands. Here we present the first global functional analysis of cellular responses to pore-forming toxins (PFTs). PFTs are uniquely important bacterial virulence factors, comprising the single largest class of bacterial protein toxins and being important for the pathogenesis in humans of many Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria. Their mode of action is deceptively simple, poking holes in the plasma membrane of cells. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of virulent enterococci in the presence or absence of Escherichia coli strains in the in vivo Caenorhabditis elegans model. The new gene DmX from Drosophila melanogaster encodes a novel WD-repeat protein

DmX is a novel gene from Drosophila melanogaster located on the X chromosome in region 5D5/6-E1. The molecular analysis of the genomic and cDNA sequences of DmX shows that the gene spans appr. 16kb and displays a mosaic structure with 15 exons. The 12kb long DmX transcript is present in Drosophila embryos, larvae and adults of both sexes. The open reading frame of DmX encodes a novel WD-repeat protein, containing at least 30 WD-repeat units. WD-repeat proteins contain a conserved motif of approximately 40 amino acids (aa), usually ending with the dipeptide Trp-Asp (WD). Sponges (phylum Porifera) are simple metazoans for which no molecular information on gametogenesis and larval development is available. To support the current study, it was confirmed by histology that oocytes and larvae were produced by the demosponge Suberites domuncula.
