Effect of tin and lead chlorotriphenyl analogues on fruit fly Drosophila hydei and liposomes membrane

This article presents the results of a study investigating the biological activity of triphenyltin chloride (TPhT) and two metalloorganic compounds, triphenyllead chloride (TPhL) and triphenylmethane chloride (TPhC), in their interaction with model membranes and the living organisms of fruit flies Drosophila hydei. The study of model membranes (sonicated liposomes) was conducted using the electron spin resonance (ESR) spin probe technique, whereas the experiment on fruit flies involved investigating their viability on media containing the studied compounds. Biophysical activity of two twin organometallic compounds Triphenyltin chloride (TPhT) and Triphenyllead chloride (TPhL) in their interreaction with model membranes, as well as with yeast cellsSaccharomyces cerevisiae, was investigated. We purified two catechol oxidases from Lycopus europaeus and Populus nigra which only catalyze the oxidation of catechols to quinones without hydroxylating tyrosine. The molecular mass of the Lycopus enzyme was determined to 39,800 Da and the mass of the Populus enzyme was determined to 56,050 Da. Both catechol oxidases are inhibited by thiourea, N-phenylthiourea, dithiocarbamate, and cyanide, but show different pH behavior using catechol as substrate. Atomic absorption spectrosopic analysis found 1.5 copper atoms per protein molecule. Using EPR spectroscopy we determined 1.8 Cu per molecule catechol oxidase. The structure of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) hydrogels formed as a result of freeze/thaw treatments of aqueous solutions of the polymer (11 wt % PVA) in the freshly prepared state is analyzed through the combined use of small (SANS) and ultrasmall (USANS) angle neutron scattering techniques. The structure of these hydrogels may be described in terms of polymer rich regions, with dimensions of the order of 1-2 microm, dispersed in a water rich phase, forming two bicontinuous phases. In this work we report the thermal behavior (10–300 K) of the Soret band lineshape of deoxy and carbonmonoxy derivatives of Asian elephant (Elephas maximus) and horse myoglobins together with their carbon monoxide recombination kinetics after flash photolysis; the results are compared to analogous data relative to sperm whale myoglobin. The Soret band profile is modeled as a Voigt function that accounts for the coupling with high and low frequency vibrational modes, while inhomogeneous broadening is taken into account with suitable distributions of purely electronic transition frequencies. Bimodal Effect of Amphiphilic Biocide Concentrations on Fluidity of Lipid Membranes

Abstract Using the spin label method (ESR) it has been shown that biologically active, amphiphilic compounds (quaternary ammonium salts -AS) containing polar heads with single and double positive charge caused, at low concentrations, decrease fluidity of liposome membranes formed with egg yolk lecithin (EYL). At higher concentrations an increase in fluidity was observed. With compounds having a single positive charge minimum fluidity of membrane structure occurs in the range of 1 to 3%, with compounds containing double positive charge -in the range of 4 -6 % . Fluidity of liposome membranes doped with organic tin compounds: ESR study.

The kinetics of change in the fluidity of liposome membranes, obtained in the process of sonication of Egg Yolk Lecithin (EYL), with the admixture of organic tin compounds, was investigated. Load-collapse-release cascades of amphiphilic guest molecules in charged dendronized polymers through spatial separation of noncovalent forces.

The ability to pack guest molecules into charged dendronized polymers (denpols) and the possibility to release these guest molecules from subsequently densely aggregated denpols in a load-collapse-release cascade is described. Charged denpols, which constitute molecular objects with a persistent, well-defined envelope and interior, are capable of incorporating large amounts of amphiphilic guest molecules. Simultaneously, multivalent ions can coordinate to the surfaces of charged denpols, leading to counterion-induced aggregation of the already guest-loaded host structures.
