Parenting and Adolescents’ Self-esteem: The Portuguese Context // Parentalidad y autoestima en la adolescencia: El contexto portugués
2013
Parallel Behaviour – Primary Evidence of an Agreement
2013
Abstract The distinction between legitimate oligopoly and cartels is tackled by each competition authority. A parallel behaviour in an oligopolistic market might be seen as an anchor for competition's effectiveness, given that companies are required to respond to the decisions of other competitors, trying to keep a realistic and competitive position to ensure welfare. Cartels offer an opposite perspective of what competition really means. Apart from the observation of the econometrical model presented in the article, the final assessment should consider the particularities of the legal and economic environment, to conclude on the existence of a cartel based on reasonable grounds.
Music as emotional self-regulation throughout adulthood
2010
Emotional self-regulation is acknowledged as one of the most important reasons for musical engagement at all ages. Yet there is little knowledge on how this self-regulatory use of music develops across the life span. A qualitative study was conducted to initially explore central processes and strategies of the emotional self-regulation during adulthood. The data were collected through group interviews and analyzed through qualitative content analysis. Participants were 21 interviewees with an age range of 21—70 years. The results clarified conceptual features of music-related emotional self-regulation in adulthood and revealed two main trends. First, the basic nature of regulation, includi…
Desarrollo, territorio y capital social.
Influence of Resilience and Optimism on Distress and Intention to Self-Isolate: Contrasting Lower and Higher COVID-19 Illness Risk Samples From an Ex…
2021
The study investigated the influence of resilience and dispositional optimism on, first, emotional distress and, second, the intention to self-isolate, experienced by people with a lower and higher illness risk, during the lockdown imposed in Spain during the first COVID-19 wave. These effects were investigated against the background of the Health Belief Model (HBM). A convenience sample of N = 325 participants completed an online survey including an ad-hoc questionnaire measuring the HBM core factors: Perceived health threat (susceptibility and severity of getting infected), and perceived quarantine benefits and costs. Self-efficacy and perceived social pressure were also measured. Based o…
Dimensions of the self-consciousness scale and their relationship with psychopathological indicators
2003
The current study has two specific aims: one is to examine the levels of self-consciousness in patients with different mental disorders (social phobia, panic disorder, major depression, dysthymia and generalized anxiety) as well as in a group with no mental disorder; another aim is to provide data for external validation of the different components of the self-consciousness scale using anxiety and depression measures. To do this, we considered the Fenigstein, Scheier, and Buss (1975) dimensions of self-consciousness (public self-consciousness, private self-consciousness and social anxiety), the private sub-scales proposed by Burnkrant and Page (1984) (Self-reflectiveness and Internal State …
Happiness in Physical Activity: A Longitudinal Examination of Children Motivation and Negative Affect in Physical Activity
2020
Physical activity has beneficial effects on health and is extremely recommended for children's well-being. Understanding risk factors that could cause negative affect in children practicing physical activity is hugely relevant, and there is a growing consensus that autonomous and controlled motivation in the self-determination theory (SDT) framework could offer a broader perspective. Consequently, this study aims to examine the longitudinal relations between autonomous motivation, controlled motivation, and negative affect in physical activity, using a sample of children that regularly participate in physical activity. One hundred forty children in the range age between 7 and 11 (M = 8.45, …
