Simple hydraulic structures, such as weirs, allow measuring flow discharge by using the upstream flow depth and a stage–discharge relationship. In this relationship, a discharge coefficient is introduced to correct all the effects neglected in the derivation (viscosity, surface tension, velocity head in the approach channel, flow turbulence, non-uniform velocity profile, and streamline curvature due to weir contraction). The purpose of this article is to analyze the self-translation strategies, together with the manipulation and persuasion policies present in the column “30 Días en Madrid/30 Giorni a Madrid” of the journal Legiones y Falanges/Legioni e Falangi. This column, written by the critic Masoliver relating briefly the political events of the time, represents a sample of how, in those times, translation – as intersemiotic processes – could be considered an ideal expression of a linguistic ideology, as well as an expression of the desire to build a national identity.
Negotiating an identity : the mediated discursive self-representation of the Polish immigrant community in the UK

The chapter investigates the mediated entextualizations of the identities of Polish immigrants to the UK in the period of post-crisis politics and economic reforms. The media discourse studied is collected from MojaWyspa.co.uk (MyIsland), one of the largest Polish-language online hubs designed for the substantial Polish community living on the British Isles. The study shows which discursive strategies of othering are employed to delimit the Polish immigrants’ collective identity, which self/other-presentation techniques are used, and how this group identity is legitimized argumentatively. Kilpauinnissa, kuten muissakin urheilulajeissa suoritusten analysointi on tärkeässä roolissa urheilijan kehityksessä. 1980 Olympialaisissa selkäuimarit alkoivat tehdä pidempiä vedenalaisia delfiinipotkuja ja huomattiin että nämä uimarit olivat nopeampia. Tämän tutkimuksen tarkoituksena oli selvittää delfiinipotkuun vaikuttavia biomekaanisia tekijöitä ja niiden eroja selällään ja vatsallaan tehtyinä startin ja ponnistuksen jälkeen. Starting a new business later in life

Self-employment in later life may be either a career option or a form of partial retirement. This paper adds knowledge about those individuals who start a business when they are older. A large longitudinal data set is utilized to examine the transitions of individuals aged 55–74 to self-employment in Finland. The significance of prior activity as well as personal, household, financial, and environmental characteristics is analyzed for the transitions. The results show that most of those entering self-employment in later life have prior self-employment experience, thus suggesting that entrepreneurship at later ages is often habitual. To date, few empirical studies have attempted to highlight the impact of the socio-economic characteristics of older entrepreneurs according to whether they are driven by necessity or opportunity. Tervo and Haapanen contribute to the economics of ageing by showing that opportunity- and necessity-driven senior entrepreneurs differ in terms of socio-economic characteristics. This chapter utilizes a longitudinal data set from Finland. Individuals aged between 55 and 70 entering self-employment are grouped in terms of pull and push motivations.
