Abstract The 1,5,7-triazabicyclo[4.4.0]dec-5-ene (TBD) and its 7-methyl derivative (MTBD) have been proven to be of great synthetic utility as catalysts in the nitroaldol (Henry) reaction and for the addition of dialkyl phosphites to a variety of carbonyl compounds. The catalysts were in many cases superior to the parent tetramethylguanidine (TMG). In general the reaction proceeds in a few minutes at 0°C. The polymer-supported-TBD (P-TBD) was also proven to be an efficient promoter of the above cited nucleophilic additions.

Abstract Bisallylansalanthanide complexes act as single component catalysts of diene polymerisation; from an equimolar mixture of isoprene and hex-1-ene, a co-polymer hex-1-ene/isoprene = 1:10 is obtained, this copolymer is essentially formed of 1,4- trans polyisoprene blocks separated by only one inserted hexyl group.

The title compound, C16H14N4, features an aromatic ring with two 2,2´-dicyanopropyl residues in positions 1 and 3, which are located above and below the ring plane. The two residues differ in their conformation with respect to the aromatic ring: whereas one of the Cmethyl-C-Cmethylene-Caromatic torsion angles is gauche [68.93 (12)°], the other one is fully staggered [177.63 (9)°]. The crystal structure is stabilized by C-H...N hydrogen-bonding interactions. Key indicators: single-crystal X-ray study; T = 173 K; mean σ(C–C) = 0.002 Å; R factor = 0.037; wR factor = 0.101; data-to-parameter ratio = 15.0.

In the crystal structure of the title complex, [CuCl(C17H24N8)]ClO4, the copper(II) metal exhibits an N4Cl pentacoordinate environment in a distorted square-pyramidal geometry. Coordination to the metal centre occurs through the three 1-methylimidazole N atoms from the pendant groups, one amine N atom from the imidazolidine moiety and one chlorido anion. Intermolecular interactions take place at two of the 1-methyl-imidazole rings in the form of parallel-displaced π–π stacking interactions forming chains parallel to the a axis. Three O atoms of the perchlorate anion are rotationally disordered between two orientations with occupancies of 0.5.

The asymmetric unit of the title compound, C22H36N2, comprises one half-molecule, the other half being generated by a center of inversion. The piperidine ring adopts a chair conformation, with the exocyclic N—C bond in an equatorial orientation. A short intramolecular C—H...N hydrogen bond occurs and forms an S(6) motif. No directional interactions beyond van der Waals contacts are observed between the molecules, which form a wave-like supramolecular architecture.

In the title trispiro compound, both the methyl-substituted pyrrolidine and dioxalane rings adopt a twist conformation. The cyclopentanone ring of the acenapthylen-1-one system adopts flattened envelope conformation, and the cyclohexanone attached to the dioxalane ring adopts boat conformation. In the crystal, centrosymmetrically related molecules are linked into dimers forming rings of (10) graph-set motif, which are further connected into chains parallel to the b axis by C—H⋯O contacts forming rings of (8) graph-set motif.
