Efficient Vacuum-Deposited Perovskite Solar Cells with Stable Cubic FA 1– x MA x PbI 3

2020

Preparation of black formamidinium lead iodide (FAPbI3) requires high temperature annealing and the incorporation of smaller A-site cations, such as methylammonium (MA+), cesium or rubidium. A major advantage of vacuum processing is the possibility to deposit perovskite films at room temperature (RT), without any annealing step. Here we demonstrate stabilization of the cubic perovskite phase at RT, in a three-sources co-sublimation method. We found that the MA+ incorporation is a self-limiting process, where the amount of MA+ which is incorporated in the perovskite is essentially unvaried with increasing MAI deposition rate. In this way a phase-pure, cubic perovskite with a bandgap of 1.53 …

Efficient Wide-Bandgap Mixed-Cation and Mixed-Halide Perovskite Solar Cells by Vacuum Deposition

2021

Vacuum deposition methods are increasingly applied to the preparation of perovskite films and devices, in view of the possibility to prepare multilayer structures at low temperature. Vacuum-deposited, wide-bandgap solar cells based on mixed-cation and mixed-anion perovskites have been scarcely reported, due to the challenges associated with the multiple-source processing of perovskite thin films. In this work, we describe a four-source vacuum deposition process to prepare wide-bandgap perovskites of the type FA1-n Cs n Pb(I1-x Br x )3 with a tunable bandgap and controlled morphology, using FAI, CsI, PbI2, and PbBr2 as the precursors. The simultaneous sublimation of PbI2 and PbBr2 allows the…

Vacuum-Deposited Multication Tin-Lead Perovskite Solar Cells

2020

The use of a combination of tin and lead is the most promising approach to fabricate narrow bandgap metal halide perovskites. This work presents the development of reproducible tin and lead perovskites by vacuum co-deposition of the precursors, a solvent-free technique which can be easily implemented to form complex stacks. Crystallographic and optical characterization reveal the optimal film composition based on cesium and methylammonium monovalent cations. Device optimization makes use of the intrinsically additive nature of vacuum deposition, resulting in solar cells with 8.89% photovoltaic efficiency. The study of the devices by impedance spectroscopy identifies bulk recombination as on…

Boosting the supercapacitive behavior of CoAl-layered double hydroxides via tuning the metal composition and interlayer space

2020

Layered double hydroxides (LDHs) are promising supercapacitor materials due to their wide chemical versatility, earth abundant metals and high specific capacitances. Many parameters influencing the supercapacitive performance have been studied such as the chemical composition, the synthetic approaches, and the interlayer anion. However, no systematic studies about the effect of the basal space have been carried out. Here, two-dimensional (2D) CoAl-LDHs were synthesized through anion exchange reactions using surfactant molecules in order to increase the interlayer space (ranging from 7.5 to 32.0 Å). These compounds exhibit similar size and dimensions but different basal space to explore excl…

Magnetization relaxation in the flux-creep annealing regime across the second magnetization peak of disordered YBa2Cu3O7− crystals

2001

Abstract The relaxation of the irreversible magnetization of disordered YBa 2 Cu 3 O 7− x crystals measured in the “flux-creep annealing” regime reveals that across the second magnetization peak (SMP) the barriers against flux motion remain finite at low current densities, which supports the existence of a crossover to a dissipation process involving the plastic deformation of the vortex system. In our experiments, the vortex creep process appears to be exclusively controlled by collective pinning barriers (diverging at low current densities) only below the onset of the SMP, where the vortex system is stable against dislocation formation. The (elastic) collective pinning barriers observed f…

Analysis of magnetization relaxation in MgB2 bulk samples obtained by electric-field assisted sintering

2008

Abstract The relaxation of the irreversible magnetization of MgB2 bulk samples obtained by electric-field assisted sintering was investigated using the SQUID magnetometry for a magnetic field H up to 50 kOe applied in zero-field-cooling conditions. We observed a crossover plastic creep at high temperatures T-elastic creep at low T, described by H ∝ T−2 in the low T range, which appears to be caused by the macroscopic currents induced in the sample during magnetization measurements. By decreasing T below this line the determined creep exponent rapidly overcomes the widely accepted theoretical values for elastic (collective) pinning. This behaviour can easily be explained through the occurren…

Finite range scattering of Ni and Zn impurities in Y-123 thin films

1997

Abstract We investigated YBa 2 (Cu 1− z M z ) 3 O 7-δ (M Ni,Zn) thin films and determined the decrease of T c and the increase of residual resistivity due to Cu-site substitution, taking into account the CuO-chain contributions to the total conductivity. Although Zn suppresses T c stronger than Ni by a factor of 2.3 the increase of resistivity differs only slightly. Furthermore the observed resistivities are too high to be explained within scattering from point-like defects. To reconcile these contradictions, we assumed finite size scattering potentials, which lead to scattering phase shifts δ l of higher angular momebtum l > 0. T c -suppression is discussed qalitatively within this picture.

PEDOT thin films with n-type thermopower

2019

peer-reviewed Synthesis of n-type organic semiconductors is challenging as reduced states are difficult to obtain due to their instability in air. Here, we report tailoring of semiconducting behavior through control of surfactant concentration during synthesis of poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) nanoparticles. Nanoparticles were synthesized by mini-emulsion polymerization, where stable suspensions were used to produce polymer films by a simple casting technique on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrates. Electrical conductivity and Seebeck coefficients were measured as a function of surfactant concentration. It was found that conductivity decreases three orders of magnitude as s…
