Open Science now: A systematic literature review for an integrated definition

2018

Abstract Open Science is a disruptive phenomenon that is emerging around the world and especially in Europe. Open Science brings about socio-cultural and technological change, based on openness and connectivity, on how research is designed, performed, captured, and assessed. Several studies show that there is a lack of awareness about what Open Science is, mainly due to the fact that there is no formal definition of Open Science. The purpose of this paper is to build a rigorous, integrated, and up-to-date definition of the Open Science phenomenon through a systematic literature review. The resulting definition “Open Science is transparent and accessible knowledge that is shared and develope…

Quantitative and qualitative comparative analysis in business

2018

Abstract Studies show that symmetric theory construction is problematic. Fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) may be better suited to data analysis and theory construction. The Global Innovation and Knowledge Academy (GIKA) Conferences have consistently endeavored to promote outstanding research. Continuing in this endeavor, this special issue of the Journal of Business Research presents articles that explore “Quantitative and Qualitative Comparative Analysis in Business.” The original papers were presented at the 2017 GIKA Conference, held at ISEG School of Economics and Management, Lisbon, Portugal, from June 28 to 30, 2017. After undergoing double-blind peer review, 37 pape…

Likewise, our objective is to offer a research agenda for the coming decade. We proceed in two steps. First, we scrut…

Creating Better Human Motivation Theories for Personal Flourishing in Organizations

2017

In order to pursue organizational objectives effectively and to develop skills and virtues that lead to flourishing in the workplace, motivation has to be properly understood and explained. This study contends that the classical and most popular taxonomies describing employee motives and needs have either neglected or minimized the importance of the ethical and spiritual dimensions of motivation, resulting in a model of a person as self-interested, amoral and non-spiritual. This work summarizes, discusses and expands some of the ideas recently published by the author and two other colleagues in the Journal of Business Ethics. There they presented a new categorization of motivations that bri…

Herbal medicinal products - Evidence and tradition from a historical perspective.

2017

Abstract Background Aside from the fully licensed herbal medicines there are products on the European pharmaceutical market which are registered by virtue of their longstanding traditional use. The normal registration procedure does not apply to them because presently they do not meet the legal requirements for a full license as set out in the relevant European Union Directive. One of these requirements, “proof of tradition”, has so far been dealt with in different ways and fails to meet the criteria of good practice. Method This analysis is based on a selective literature search in PubMed and in databases of medical and pharmaceutical history, interviews with licensing experts, a consensus…
