Effect of the loading rate on ultimate strength of composites. Application: Pressure vessel slow burst test

International audience; The strength of unidirectional elastic fibre composites is shown to depend on the loading rate as the viscoelastic nature of the matrix results in a fall in breaking load as the rate is reduced. The simulation of the accumulation of fibre breaks leading to failure, takes into account all physical phenomena involved fibre failure, including the stochastic nature of fibre strength, stress transfer through the matrix between reinforcements, interfacial debonding and the viscoelastic nature of the matrix. Guest Effect on Nanopatterned Spin-Crossover Thin Films

International audience; Nanopatterned thin films of the metal–organic framework {Fe(bpac)[Pt(CN)4]} (bpac=bis(4‐pyridyl)acetylene) are elaborated by the combination of a sequential assembly process and a lithographic method. Raman microspectroscopy is used to probe the temperature dependence of the spin state of the iron(II) ions in the films (40–90 nm in thickness), and reveals an incomplete but cooperative spin transition comparable to that of the bulk material. Adsorption/desorption of pyridine guest molecules is found to have a substantial influence on the spin‐crossover properties of the thin layers. International audience; The full control of the fundamental photophysics of nanosystems at frequencies as high as few THz is key for tunable and ultrafast nanophotonic devices and metamaterials. Here we combine geometrical and ultrafast control of the optical properties of halide perovskite nanoparticles, which constitute a prominent platform for nanophotonics. On the possibility of synthesizing multilayered coatings in the (Ti,Al)N system by RGPP: A microstructural study

International audience; Radiofrequency magnetron sputtering combined with reactive gas pulsing process was used to synthesize two titanium aluminum nitride multilayer films using a periodically controlled nitrogen flow rate changing from 0.4 to 1 sccm (sample S04-1) and from 0 to 1 sccm (sample S0-1). A metallic TiAl buffer layer was deposited on the etched substrates before the deposition to enhance their adhesion. WS2 2D Semiconductor Down to Monolayers by Pulsed-Laser Deposition for Large-Scale Integration in Electronics and Spintronics Circuits

International audience; We report on the achievement of a large-scale tungsten disulfide (WS2) 2D semiconducting platform derived by pulsed-laser deposition (PLD) on both insulating substrates (SrTiO3), as required for in-plane semiconductor circuit definition, and ferromagnetic spin sources (Ni), as required for spintronics applications. We show thickness and phase control, with highly homogeneous wafer-scale monolayers observed under certain conditions, as demonstrated by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and Raman spectroscopy mappings. Unmixing of human skin optical reflectance maps by Non-negative Matrix Factorization algorithm

International audience; We present in this paper the decomposition of human skin absorption spectra with a Non-negative Matrix Factorization method. In doing so, we are able to quantify the relative proportion of the main chromophores present in the epidermis and the dermis. We present experimental results showing that we obtain a good estimate of melanin and hemoglobin concentrations. Our approach has been validated by analyzing the human skin absorption spectra in areas of healthy skin and areas affected by melasma on eight patients.

Fibre break processes in unidirectional composites

International audience; A model to predict the effects of the accumulation of fibre breakages in unidirectional carbon fibre composites has been developed that takes into account several physical phenomena controlling fibre failure, including the stochastic nature of fibre strength, stress transfer between fibres due to the shear of the matrix, interfacial debonding and viscosity of the matrix. The damage processes leading up to failure are discussed and quantified, first in terms of fibre breaks for the case of monotonically increasing tensile loading, then for sustained loading and finally the implications for more complex loads and structures are discussed.
