Volatile compounds of flowers and leale of Sideritis italica (Miller) Greuter et Burdet used as mountain tea

Sideritis italica (Miller) Greuter et Burdet (Lamiaceae), widely used in ethnopharmacological medicine, occurs in Southern Italy and Sicily. The phytochemical composition of the essential oils of S. italica flowers and leaves, harvested in Piano Battaglia (Sicily), was analysed by GC and GC-MS. Of the 51 compounds, 43 in the oil from flowers and 29 in the oil from leaves were identified. Kaur-15-ene (20.0%) was recognised as the main constituent of the oil from flowers, together with -cubebene (12.1%), -pinene (8.5%), (Z)-nuciferol (6.5%), tricyclene (4.5%) and -bisabolol (4.0%). An N‐heterocyclic carbene catalyzed domino sequence via α,β‐unsaturated acyl azolium intermediates has been developed. This strategy provides a convenient enantioselective route to functionalized tricyclic coumarin derivatives and cyclopentanes. Synthesis of 6,12-Disubstituted Methanodibenzo[b,f][1,5]dioxocins : Pyrrolidine Catalyzed Self-Condensation of 2′-Hydroxyacetophenones

The preparation of unprecedented 6,12-disubstituted methanodibenzo[b,f][1,5]dioxocins from pyrrolidine catalyzed self-condensation of 2′-hydroxyacetophenones is herein described. This method provides easy access to this highly bridged complex core, resulting in construction of two C–O and two C–C bonds, a methylene bridge and two quaternary centers in a single step. The intricate methanodibenzo[b,f][1,5]dioxocin compounds were obtained in up to moderate yields after optimization of the reaction conditions concerning solvent, reaction times and the use of additives. Several halide substituted methanodibenzo[b,f][1,5]dioxocins could be prepared from correspondent 2′-hydroxyacetophenones.

Anti-androgens for the treatment of hirsutism.

Many alternatives exist for treating hirsutism. Based on an analysis of scientific literature and on the experiences of the author, the most common anti-androgen agents are discussed in this review. Androgen receptor blockers (cyproterone acetate, flutamide and spironolactone), 5 alpha-reductase inhibitors (finasteride) and androgen-suppressing agents (gonadotrophin-releasing hormone [GnRH] agonists, oestroprogestins, corticosteroids and insulin-sensitising agents) are evaluated and compared. The importance of diagnosis in choosing the most appropriate anti-androgen treatment is also discussed.

Key Teaching Points • Despite proven catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (CPVT) with pathogen RyR2 mutation and recurrent syncope, patients could have a favorable long-term outcome over 35 years under treatment. • Propafenone could be effective for treatment of patients with CPVT. • The beneficial effect of the monotherapy with propafenone in our patient may result from the combined antiarrhythmic effect of this drug with Na+ channel blockade and beta blocker capabilities.

Diabetes is associated with oxidative stress. This study evaluated the rates of oxidative stress and mitochondrial impairment in type 2 diabetes patients. The study population consisted of 182 diabetic patients and 50 body-composition- and age-matched controls. We assessed anthropometric and metabolic parameters and mitochondrial function by evaluating mitochondrial oxygen (O2) consumption, reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, glutathione (GSH) levels, GSH/GSSG ratio, mitochondrial membrane potential, and mitochondrial complex I activity in polymorphonuclear cells from diabetes type 2 patients. Die Nekropole von Lailly Au-delà de l’Eau (Departement Yonne) war 1927 entdeckt worden und wurde1934, 1936 und 1937 und zum letzten Mal 2012 teilweise ausgegraben. Die Untersuchung der in den Depots der Museen von Senswiederentdeckten Grabbeigaben und die systematische Aufarbeitung der Grabungsarchive der Société archéologique de Sens habenes ermöglicht, einen Teil der geschlossenen Fundkontexte zu rekonstruieren und eine Belegungschronologie dieser kleinen Nekropolevorzuschlagen, deren großes wissenschaftliches Potenzial noch in situ erforscht werden muss. Die Studie der Grabsitten hat es zudemerlaubt, die Funde in den regionalen und überregionalen soziokulturellen Kontext zu einzuordnen
