CD4+CD25+ regulatory T cells suppress mast cell degranulation and allergic responses through OX40-OX40L interaction.
2008
T regulatory (Treg) cells play a role in the suppression of immune responses, thus serving to induce tolerance and control autoimmunity. Here, we explored whether Treg cells influence the immediate hypersensitivity response of mast cells (MCs). Treg cells directly inhibited the FcεRI-dependent MC degranulation through cell-cell contact involving OX40-OX40L interactions between Treg cells and MCs, respectively. When activated in the presence of Treg cells, MCs showed increased cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP) concentrations and reduced Ca2+ influx, independently of phospholipase C (PLC)-γ2 or Ca2+ release from intracellular stores. Antagonism of cAMP in MCs reversed the inhibitory effec…
Cerebrovascular risk factors and clinical classification of strokes
2005
Cerebrovascular risk represents a progressive and evolving concept owing to the particular distribution of risk factors in patients with ischemic stroke and in light of the newest stroke subtype classifications that account for pathophysiological, instrumental, and clinical criteria. Age represents the strongest nonmodifiable risk factor associated with ischemic stroke, while hypertension constitutes the most important modifiable cerebrovascular risk factor, confirmed by a host of epidemiological data and by more recent intervention trials of primary (HOT, Syst-Eur, LIFE) and secondary (PROGRESS) prevention of stroke in hypertensive patients. To be sure, a curious relationship exists betwee…
The role of MR imaging in the assessment of renal allograft vasculature.
2018
Renal allograft dysfunction after transplantation is a relatively common occurrence with various potential etiologies. Vascular etiologies are of particular importance as early surgical or minimally invasive intervention can, in some cases, salvage the graft. Diagnosis of vascular pathology resulting in allograft dysfunction requires a thorough workup, of which imaging is a key component. Generally, ultrasound is the first-line imaging modality. More recently, MRI has been shown to be an effective and safe modality for diagnosis of vascular pathology after renal transplantation, particularly for diagnosis of transplant renal artery stenosis. This review will summarize imaging modalities tha…
Kti12, a PSTK-like tRNA dependent ATPase essential for tRNA modification by Elongator
2019
Abstract Posttranscriptional RNA modifications occur in all domains of life. Modifications of anticodon bases are of particular importance for ribosomal decoding and proteome homeostasis. The Elongator complex modifies uridines in the wobble position and is highly conserved in eukaryotes. Despite recent insights into Elongator's architecture, the structure and function of its regulatory factor Kti12 have remained elusive. Here, we present the crystal structure of Kti12′s nucleotide hydrolase domain trapped in a transition state of ATP hydrolysis. The structure reveals striking similarities to an O-phosphoseryl-tRNA kinase involved in the selenocysteine pathway. Both proteins employ similar …

Rational and design of the European randomized Optical Coherence Tomography Optimized Bifurcation Event Reduction Trial (OCTOBER)
2018
Background Percutaneous coronary intervention in complex bifurcation lesions is prone to suboptimal implantation results and is associated with increased risk of subsequent clinical events. Angiographic ambiguity is high during bifurcation stenting, but it is unknown if procedural guidance by intravascular optical coherence tomography (OCT) improves clinical outcome. Methods and design OCTOBER is a randomized, investigator-initiated, multicenter trial aimed to show superiority of OCT-guided stent implantation compared to standard angiographic-guided implantation in bifurcation lesions. The primary outcome measure is a 2-year composite end point of cardiac death, target lesion myocardial inf…
Everolimus eluting bioresorbable vascular scaffolds in patients with acute coronary syndromes: Two‐year results from the German‐Austrian ABSORB regis…
2021
Abstract Objectives To identify potential differences in 2‐year outcome between patients who underwent coronary revascularization using bioresorbable vascular scafffolds (BVS) in stable coronary artery disease (CAD) and acute coronary syndromes (ACS). Background Data from randomized trials suggest a significantly higher event rate following coronary revascularization using everolimus‐eluting BVS as compared to new generation drug eluting stents. Whether particular patient subgroups are at increased risk for scaffold thrombosis and target lesion failure (TLF) has not clearly been demonstrated. Methods German‐Austrian ABSORB RegIstRy is a prospective all‐comer multi‐center observational study…
Long-term outcome after drug-eluting stents implantation: Target lesion versus nontarget lesion repeated intervention
2010
Abstract We sought to investigate the relative clinical significance of target and nontarget lesions repeated percutaneous coronary intervention (re-PCI) in patients implanted with drug-eluting stents (DES). Out of 2626 consecutive DES patients, we retrospectively selected 166 (6.3%; 123 males, aged 65±10years) who had a clinically-driven re-PCI over a mean follow-up of 15months. Seventy-five patients (45%) underwent the second procedure for disease progression in nontarget lesions (nontarget lesion re-PCI group) while 91 (55%) showed target lesion in-stent restenosis or thrombosis (target lesion re-PCI group), with no significant intergroup difference in the temporal trends of re-PCI. The …
Design and implementation of modelling tasks using iPad's: a dual perspective
2016
[EN] This paper presents the design of two experiences to introduce modelling of physical phe-nomena through modelling tasks using iPadR's. Each of the proposals is designed with adi erent vision about modelling. In one case modelling is used as a vehicle to introduceprecise mathematical contents. While, on the other one, we intend to develop an activitythat can help student to improve their modelling competence. Our aim is to present twoproposals to introduce modelling in a ninth or tenth grade classroom
