Previously it was found that the expression of selected heat-shock proteins is upregulated in corals after exposure to elevated temperature. We published that HSPs are suitable markers in sponges to monitor the degree of environmental stress on these animals. In the present study the heat-shock proteins (HSPs) with a molecular weight of 90 kDa have been selected to prove their potential usefulness as biomarkers under controlled laboratory conditions and in the field. Dauerinfusionen mit Glycerin an Ratten fuhren bei Dosierungen oberhalb der durchschnittlichen maximalen Umsatzkapazitat (0,74 g.kg−1.h−1) zu Veranderungen an den Nieren in Form einer Gewichtszunahme bei gleichzeitiger Proteinverarmung und eines Aktivitatsverlustes an Glycerokinase bei deren gleichzeitigem Auftreten im Harn. Bei Dosierungen von 0,6 g.kg−1.h−1 und mehr kommt es zu einem ATP-Abfall in den Nieren. Im Gegensatz dazu sind Veranderungen in der Leber uneinheitlicb und in ahnlicher Form nur bei Dosierungsraten oberhalb der maximalen Umsatzkapazitat zu finden. Calas are characteristic embayed rocky coastline landforms related to steep-sided drowned valleys that were deeply incised during low sea-level stages into carbonate plateaus. This paper studies the factors that control the presence and character of calas in three different islands of the Balearic Archipelago (Mallorca, Menorca and Formentera) by means of Digital Elevation Model (DEM) reconstructions, embayment and catchment morphometric analysis and through the compilation of fault and joint orientations. Entre todos los cánceres del tracto genital femenino, el cáncer de ovario es el segundo en orden de frecuencia y el de mayor mortalidad. En España se diagnostican unos 3.300 casos nuevos anuales, lo que representa el 5% de los canceres entre las mujeres. La incidencia en nuestro país es de aproximadamente 9 nuevos casos / 100.000 habitantes/año. La tasa de mortalidad es de 4 muertes /100.000 habitantes/año. En el momento del diagnóstico, el 75% de las pacientes están en un estadio avanzado de la enfermedad (III o IV). Las cifras de supervivencia disminuyen drásticamente entre los estadio I al IV. Abstract We have studied extracts from three species rich in lanostane triterpenes for their activity against different in vivo models of inflammation induced by TPA, EPP and PLA2. The inhibitory effect against PLA2 in vitro was also studied. When the Poria cocos extract was tested against PLA2-induced mouse paw edema, it was active by the oral and parenteral routes. Its effect was greater in both magnitude and duration than that of Pistacia terebinthus and Ganoderma lucidum extracts. P. terebinthus was effective against chronic and acute inflammation, and according to a preliminary chromatographic analysis, its seems to be a good source of lanostane anti-inflammatory agents. Infant formulas are the only suitable substitute for human milk. The most common infant formulas are standard formulas based on cow's milk. In addition, there are formulas for infants showing signs and symptoms of intolerance and for clinical conditions such as allergy, prematurity, and gastrointestinal diseases. A comprehensive review of the literature was made to review the composition of standard and specialized infant formulas and analyze indications for use, real or presumed nutrition differences and properties, and impact on infant growth. Ascorbic Acid in Postoperative Intensive Care Patients - Biochemical Aspects and Clinical Experience

The transport mechanisms of ascorbic acid (AA) are described. The metabolism of AA and its function as an antioxidant are covered in some detail. Subsequently, indications for postoperative substitution are discussed. The supplementation of up to 300 mg of AA per day in postoperative intensive care unit patients during par-/enteral nutrition is recommended to prevent hypovitaminosis. It is not clear if this is the optimal dosage of AA in postoperative/-trauma patients. New aspects for an AA substitution are discussed.
