Radiation-induced defects in sapphire single crystals irradiated by a pulsed ion beam

2020

Abstract The luminescence and thermal stability of defects formed in α-Al2O3 single crystals after powerful (300 keV) pulsed irradiation with C+/H+ ion beam were investigated. It was found by measuring of optical density, photoluminescence, and pulsed cathodoluminescence that ion irradiation induces both single F-, F+-centers and F2-type aggregate centers. An intense thermoluminescence band with a complex shape was observed in the broad temperature range of 350–700 K, its intensity decreases with increasing of the energy density of the ion beam. The thermal stability of the F-type defects produced in α-Al2O3 after irradiation with a pulsed ion beam is comparable to that in neutron-irradiate…

On the solution of a parabolic PDE involving a gas flow through a semi-infinite porous medium

2021

Abstract Taking as start point the parabolic partial differential equation with the respective initial and boundary conditions, the present research focuses onto the flow of a sample of waste-water derived from a standard/conventional dyeing process. In terms of a highly prioritized concern, meaning environment decontamination and protection, in order to remove the dyes from the waste waters, photocatalyses like ZnO or TiO2 nanoparticles were formulated, due to their high surface energy which makes them extremely reactive and attractive. According to the basics of ideal fluid, the key point is the gas flow through an ideal porous pipe consisting of nanoparticles bound one to each other, for…

Relaxation of polarization in (K0.5Na0.5)(Nb0.93Sb0.07)O3 ferroelectric ceramics modified by BaTiO3

2017

ABSTRACTA study of low-frequency relaxation of polarization in conventionally prepared ceramic compounds of (1-x)(K0.5Na0.5)(Nb0.93Sb0.07)O3+xBaTiO3+0.5mol.%MnO2 (x = 0.02, 0.04) examined over a wide temperature range is reported. Anomalous behavior of the temperature dependence of the coercive field Ec(T) is detected in the temperature range of the orthorhombic to tetragonal phase transition. The observed features of polarization are assigned to dynamics of the domain structure at the temperature range of phase coexistence.

Study of the thermochromic phase transition in CuMo1−xWxO4 solid solutions at the W L3-edge by resonant X-ray emission spectroscopy

2021

Abstract Polycrystalline CuMo 1 − x W x O 4 solid solutions were studied by resonant X-ray emission spectroscopy (RXES) at the W L 3 -edge to follow a variation of the tungsten local atomic and electronic structures across thermochromic phase transition as a function of sample composition and temperature. The experimental results were interpreted using ab initio calculations. The crystal-field splitting parameter Δ for the 5d(W)-states was obtained from the analysis of the RXES plane and was used to evaluate the coordination of tungsten atoms. Temperature-dependent RXES measurements were successfully employed to determine the hysteretic behaviour of the structural phase transition between t…

Dielectric behaviour of BaTi1-xZrxO3ceramics obtained by means of a solid state and mechanochemical synthesis

2016

ABSTRACTIn this study the comparison of dielectric behaviour of BaTi1-xZrxO3 (BTZx) ceramic samples prepared by means of a solid state and mechanochemical synthesis was presented. A single phase of perovskite structure was identified in the samples at room temperature. No significant impurities were detected in an EDS spectrum and the samples had a good stoichiometric ratio. The morphology of the investigated samples was characterized by a scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The investigation of dielectric properties of the BTZx samples within the temperature range from 140 K to 600 K was performed by means of a dielectric spectroscopy method at the frequency ranging from 0.1 Hz to 10 MHz. …

Electromagnetically induced switching of ferroelectric thin films

2007

We analyze the interaction of an electromagnetic spike (one cycle) with a thin layer of ferroelectric medium with two equilibrium states. The model is the set of Maxwell equations coupled to the undamped Landau-Khalatnikov equation, where we do not assume slowly varying envelopes. From linear-scattering theory, we show that low-amplitude pulses can be completely reflected by the medium. Large-amplitude pulses can switch the ferroelectric. Using numerical simulations and analysis, we study this switching for long and short pulses, estimate the switching times, and provide useful information for experiments.

Hot-cavity studies for the Resonance Ionization Laser Ion Source

2016

International audience; The Resonance Ionization Laser Ion Source (RILIS) has emerged as an important technique in many Radioactive Ion Beam (RIB) facilities for its reliability, and ability to ionize target elements efficiently and element selectively. GISELE is an off-line RILIS test bench to study the implementation of an on-line laser ion source at the GANIL separator facility. The aim of this project is to determine the best technical solution which combines high selectivity and ionization efficiency with small ion beam emittance and stable long term operation. The ion source geometry was tested in several configurations in order to find a solution with optimal ionization efficiency an…

Thermal oxidation of the intermetallic phases Al 8 Mo 3 and AlMo 3

2017

Abstract The thermal oxidation reactions of the intermetallic phases Al8Mo3 and AlMo3 were investigated and analyzed by ex-situ powder-x-ray diffraction (XRD), difference thermal analysis (DTA), thermogravimetry (TGA), and infrared spectroscopy (IR). The initial oxidation reactions in air were found to yield Al2O3 and AlMo3 in the case of Al8Mo3 (Tonset =725 °C), and MoO3 as well as Al8−xMo3 (Tonset =435 °C) for the pure intermetallic phase AlMo3, respectively. Thus, both intermetallic phases are coexisting in an equilibrium within a temperature range of 300 °C under oxidizing conditions. The formation of β-Al2(MoO4)3 followed the second oxidizing process of the respective minority componen…

Controlled thermal oxidation of nanostructured vanadium thin films

2016

Abstract Pure V thin films were dc sputtered with different pressures (0.4 and 0.6 Pa) and particle incident angles α of 0°, 20° and 85°, by using the GLancing Angle Deposition (GLAD) technique. The sputtered films were characterized regarding their electrical resistivity behaviour in atmospheric pressure and in-vacuum conditions as a function of temperature (40–550 °C), in order to control the oxidation process. Aiming at comprehending the oxidation behaviour of the samples, extensive morphological and structural studies were performed on the as-deposited and annealed samples. Main results show that, in opposition to annealing in air, the columnar nanostructures are preserved in vacuum con…
