137Cs concentrations in perch Perca fluviatilis, pike Esox lucius and roach Rutilus rutilus obtained from lakes of different size and water quality in an area which received about 10–67 kBq m−2137Cs, were compared with environmental data. Radiocaesium concentrations were highest in pike, and were about two to three times higher in the pike and perch than in the roach. The largest perch had about four times more 137Cs than the smallest ones, but the activities in the pike and roach were independent of fish size. Kresoxim-methyl is nowadays widely used to combat a diversity of common diseases affecting high-value crops. In this article, we report the development and characterization of two novel immunoassays for the analysis of this pioneer strobilurin fungicide, and for the first time, a validation study with food samples was performed. A direct and an indirect competitive immunoassay based on a new anti-kresoxim-methyl monoclonal antibody were developed for sensitive and specific chemical analysis. The photoinduced toxicity of two polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), retene (RET) and pyrene (PYR), to the eleutheroembryos of whitefish and northern pike was studied. Fish were exposed to three concentrations of RET and PYR, and irradiated with ultraviolet radiation (UVR) or visible light for 3 h on two consecutive days. UVR covered the absorption maxima of RET and PYR at UVB and UVA, the daily UVR doses were 30 and 28 kJ m−2, respectively. After 72 h, mortality and behavioral abnormalities were observed. Some organo-Main-Group-IV-element compounds of steroids of the type R3M(COL), R2Sn(COL)2 and (R3M)2(HDCA) (where R = Me or Ph; M = Si, Sn and Pb; HCOL = cholest-5-en-3β-ol; H3DCA = 3α, 12α-dihydroxy-5β-cholan-24-oic acid), have been synthesized. In order to investigate whether increased UV-B radiation is a risk factor, a series of acute laboratory experiments was conducted with larval stages of the northern pike (Esox lucius L.), hatching in Nordic waters in May. Rhipidocotyle fennica n. sp. (= Rhipidocotyle Type A of Taskinen et al., 1991) from the intestine of Esox lucius in central Finland is described and compared by means of a principal components analysis (PCA) with R. campanula (= Rhipidocotyle Type B of Taskinen et al., 1991). Its cercaria develops in the bivalve Anodonta anatina and the metacercaria occurs in the skin and fins of Rutilus rutilus. The metacercaria is discriminated from that of R. campanula by PCA and is described along with aspects of the chaetotaxy of the cercaria. The new species is distinguished from R. campanula, R. kovalae, R. papillosa and R. septpapillata.

L'indice de reflexion acoustique laterale (TS) de 19 saumons Atlantique (Salmo salar), 16 truites de mer (Salmo trutta), 10 coregones (Coregonus lavaretus) et 7 brochets (Esox lucius) a ete mesure en utilisant un sondeur de 200 kHz, afin d'etudier la relation entre l'indice TS et la taille, le poids et la surface du poisson. Les effets de l'angle d'incidence sur l'indice TS ont aussi ete etudies. Des modeles lineaires entre TS et le logarithme de l'indice de taille du poisson ont ete ajustes et ont montre que la meilleure prevision provient de l'indice de longueur. Hauki on erittäin yleinen kala Suomessa ja tärkeä saaliskala kalastajille. Haukipopulaatioissa tavataan suurta kokovaihtelua emokalojen välillä, ja mm. kalastuksensäätelyn näkökulmasta olisi hyödyllistä tuntea erikokoisten emojen merkitys populaatioiden lisääntymiskyvylle. Tutkimuksessa selvitettiin emohaukien koon vaikutusta mädin ja poikasten laatuun. Tarkoitusta varten pyydystettiin yhteensä 26 emo- ja 12 koirashaukea kolmesta pienestä eteläsuomalaisesta metsäjärvestä. Naaraat olivat 22,3-94,5 cm:n ja koiraat 40,0-45,0 cm:n pituisia.
