Iberian Neolithic Networks: The Rise and Fall of the Cardial World

Recent approaches have described the evolutionary dynamics of the first Neolithic societies as a cycle of rise and fall. Several authors, using mainly c14 dates as a demographic proxy, identified a general pattern of a boom in population coincident with the arrival of food production economies followed by a rapid decline some centuries afterwards in multiple European regions. Concerning Iberia, we also noted that this phenomenon correlates with an initial development of archaeological entities (i.e., ‘cultures’) over large areas (e.g. the Impresso-Cardial in West Mediterranean), followed by a phase of ‘cultural fragmentation’ by the end of Early Neolithic. Sigma-1 receptor (Sig1R) has been proposed as a therapeutic target for neurological, neu-rodegenerative, and psychiatric disorders, including depression and anxiety. Identifying metabolites that are affected by Sig1R absence and cross-referencing them with specific mood-related behaviors would be helpful for the development of new therapies for Sig1R-associated disorders. Here, we examined metabolic profiles in the blood and brains of male CD-1 background Sig1R knockout (KO) mice in adulthood and old age and correlated them with the assessment of depression-and anxiety-related behaviors. Locomotor and antidepressant-like effects of 5-HT(1A) agonist LY 228729 in prenatally benzodiazepine-exposed rats.

Locomotor activity and antidepressant-like effect in the forced swim test (FST) of 5-HT(1A) agonist LY 228729 were investigated in adult rats prenatally exposed at doses of diazepam (DZ) and alprazolam (ALP) which induce persistent downregulation of GABA/ benzodiazepine (BZ) receptors. Prenatal exposure to ALP and DZ did not modify the efficacy of subchronic LY 228729 to decrease immobility time in the FST. Prenatal DZ and ALP potentiated the facilitatory effect of subchronic LY 228729 on locomotor activity; prenatal DZ was more effective than prenatal ALP. Abstract Serotonin is involved in a wide range of physiological and patho-physiological mechanisms. In particular, 5-HT1A receptors are proposed to mediate stress-adaptation. Shock control bump design optimization on natural laminar aerofoil

The chapter investigates Shock Control Bumps (SCB) on a Natural Laminar Flow (NLF) aerofoil; RAE 5243 for Active Flow Control (AFC). A SCB approach is used to decelerate supersonic flow on the suction/pressure sides of transonic aerofoil that leads delaying shock occurrence or weakening of shock strength. Such an AFC technique reduces significantly the total drag at transonic speeds. This chapter considers the SCB shape design optimisation at two boundary layer transition positions (0 and 45%) using an Euler software coupled with viscous boundary layer effects and robust Evolutionary Algorithms (EAs).
