Nuclear rDNA-based molecular clock of the evolution of Triatominae (Hemiptera : Reduviidae), vectors of Chagas disease

The evolutionary history and times of divergence of triatomine bug lineages are estimated from molecular clocks inferred from nucleotide sequences of the small subunit SSU (18S) and the second internal transcribed spacer (ITS-2) of the nuclear ribosomal DNA of these reduviids. The 18S rDNA molecular clock rate in Triatominae, and Prosorrhynchan Hemiptera in general, appears to be of 1.8% per 100 million years (my). The ITS-2 molecular clock rate in Triatominae is estimated to be around 0.4-1% per 1 my, indicating that ITS-2 evolves 23-55 times faster than 18S rDNA. Estimation and prognosis value of elderly colorectal cancer patients' quality of life. : A population-based study

Colorectal cancer is one of the most common malignancies in France and predominantly affects older patients. Few studies evaluating baseline quality of life of those patients, its short term evolution and its prognosis value on patients' survival have been performed in the context of a population-based study. This work is based on a prospective longitudinal cohort study performed by the Burgundy Digestive Cancer Registry. All patients aged 65 and over, diagnosed with a new colorectal cancer and registered by the Registry between 2003 and 2005 were eligible. The biodiversity of nitrogen-fixing organisms is huge. Taxonomic and phylogenetic research is needed to structure this diversity, to facilitate communication among scientists, and to increase our understanding of the evolution and biology of diazotrophs. Molecular tools for taxonomic and biodiversity studies of diazotrophic rhizobia, frankiae, cyanobacteria and bacilli are presented in sections 2 to 5. Sections 6 to 9 focus on problems with genus and species assignment.
