Assessing Single Joints in Arthritis Clinical Trials
2009
The need to develop validated outcome measures to assess response to therapies in single joints has been recognized. In 2004, a task force was established to assess established and novel outcome measures in accordance with the OMERACT filter (truth, discrimination, and feasibility) for single joint assessment. This report describes the proceedings of the single joint assessment special interest group (SIG) at OMERACT 9, including an updated literature review of imaging of the knee joints, with a focus on the extent to which these modalities fulfill the OMERACT filter. A series of studies are reported that examine patient reported, clinical examination, and imaging outcomes in therapeutic st…
Maxillary bone lesions in McCune-Albright syndrome:a case report
2011
Abstract Objectives In this study, we report on the clinical maxillary manifestations of a patient affected by McCune-Albright syndrome and the implications for orthodontic therapy. Materials and methods A male, 8-year-old patient was examined at the Department of Orthodontics of the University of L’Aquila for a problem of anterior open-bite. In the clinical examination, a small swelling of the left hemi-maxilla was seen in the area corresponding to the root apex of 16 and under the tooth buds of 14 and 15. In a panoramic radiograph, a radio-opaque area was detected in this zone. From the computer tomography examination, a bone lesion was identified. Results Identification of this bone lesi…
Posterior Shoulder Instability
2020
Posterior shoulder instability is often hard to diagnose with clinical examination. Patients generally present with vague pain, weakness, and/or joint clicking but less frequently complaining of frank sensation of instability. Imaging examinations, especially MR imaging and magnetic resonance arthrography, have a pivotal role in the identification and management of this condition. This review describes the pathologic micro/macrotraumatic magnetic resonance features of posterior shoulder instability as well as the underlying joint abnormalities predisposing to this condition, including developmental anomalies of the glenoid fossa, humeral head, posterior labrum, and capsular and ligamentous …
Thoracic dumbbell spinal chordoma mimicking a schwannoma
2021
Background: Epidural dumbbell-shaped chordomas are localized slow growing, and malignant/aggressive neoplasms. Here, we present a 62-year-old male with a T3-T4 dumbbell-shaped chordoma and reviewed the appropriate literature. Case Description: A 62-year-old male presented with a three-month history of thoracic pain. When the thoracolumbar magnetic resonance (MR) showed a T3-T4 dumbbell-shaped intracanalicular/extradural tumor, he underwent tumor removal. After the histological examination proved the lesion was a spinal chordoma, he underwent a secondary radical transthoracic tumor resection. Postoperatively, the patient was able to walk without assistance, and at 6-month follow-up, was neu…
Hypokalemic rhabdomyolysis associated with Bartter's syndrome.
1983
Severe potassium deficiency is an uncommon cause of rhabdomyolysis. We recently treated a 45-year-old patient with myalgia, serious generalized weakness, increased serum creatine kinase and myoglobin level as well as excessive hypokalemia. Histological examination of deltoid muscle biopsy showed rhabdomyolysis. After complete recovery of muscle damage by potassium substitution Bartter's syndrome proved to be the cause of initial and persistent hypokalemia.
Modelling the Electromechanical Impedance Method for the Prediction of the Biomechanical Behavior of Dental Implant Stability
2015
Abstract We propose the electromechanical impedance (EMI) technique to assess the stability of dental implants. The technique consists of bonding a piezoelectric transducer to the element to be monitored. Conventionally, electromechanical admittance is used to diagnose structural damage. In this study, we created a 3D finite element model to mimic a transducer bonded to the abutment of a dental implant placed in a host bone site. We simulated the healing after surgery by changing the Young's modulus of the bone-implant interface. The results show that as the Young's modulus of the interface increases, the electromechanical characteristic of the transducer changes.
Lukiomenestyksen ja yliopisto-opintojen aloitushetken iän yhteys yliopisto-opinnoissa menestymiseen ja opintojen etenemiseen : seurantatutkimus
2018
Practising, testing and assessing oral skills in Finnish upper secondary schools: teachers' opinions
2006
IB upper secondary school and national upper secondary school students' attitudes towards English oral skills : a comparative study
2013
Tutkimuksessa haluttiin selvittää, millaisia asenteita Suomen lukiolaisilla on englannin suullista kielitaitoa kohtaan. Suullisen kielitaid…
Worldwide trends in blood pressure from 1975 to 2015: a pooled analysis of 1479 population-based measurement studies with 19.1 million participants
2017
Background Raised blood pressure is an important risk factor for cardiovascular diseases and chronic kidney disease. We estimated worldwide trends in mean systolic and mean diastolic blood pressure, and the prevalence of, and number of people with, raised blood pressure, defined as systolic blood pressure of 140 mm Hg or higher or diastolic blood pressure of 90 mm Hg or higher. Methods For this analysis, we pooled national, subnational, or community population-based studies that had measured blood pressure in adults aged 18 years and older. We used a Bayesian hierarchical model to estimate trends from 1975 to 2015 in mean systolic and mean diastolic blood pressure, and the prevalence of rai…
