A Comparison of the User Experiences of Primary Care Electronic Health Record Systems

2020

Digital health records play an important role for the information flow in primary care organizations that carry out services at patient’s home. Mobile digital solutions have improved the access to up-dated care information at the patient’s home, facilitating new ways for clinical workflow and care delivery. The role of guidance in student engagement with chemistry studies

2019

During recent years, the Department of Chemistry at the University of Jyväskylä has made an extensive effort to support chemistry students’ first study year. The first-year curriculum includes enhanced study counselling course, intensive orientation course and support for academic study skills via a specific course.  In this study, the effects of the revisions were studied by exploring the chemistry students study continuation and what factors contributed to it.  In 2015 to 2017, data were collected from first-year chemistry students (n = 106), who completed a questionnaire at the beginning and at the end of their first semester. User experience-based information retrieval from semistar data ontologies

2019

The time necessary for the doubling of medical knowledge is rapidly decreasing. In such circumstances, it is of utmost importance for the information retrieval process to be rapid, convenient and straightforward. However, it often lacks at least one of these properties. Several obstacles prohibit domain experts extracting knowledge from their databases without involving the third party in the form of IT professionals. The main limitation is usually the complexity of querying languages and tools. This paper proposes the approach of using a keywords-containing natural language for querying the database and exploiting the system that could automatically translate such queries to already existi…

Freedom and pressure in self-disclosure

2013

Today there is great openness about breast cancer, and the current ideology is that this is considered positive. This article draws upon sociological and philosophical theories to explore psychological practices. We ask: do women experience as much freedom to not talk about their illness as they do to talk about it? Do they experience that not being open is as favourably valued as openness is? The article is based on an ethnographic study in which women have given detailed accounts of how, to whom and in which situations they have been open or closed about their illness. It shows that breast cancer sufferers do not always experience a real choice between withholding and sharing information.…

Mental health care: trust and mistrust in different caring contexts.

2008

Aims and objectives.  To identify the factors that make trust within the context of public mental health possible. We also consider the question of patients’ trust in the whole caring system. Background.  There are theoretical studies concerning trust between human beings in several disciplines within psychiatry and social services but few studies investigate how trust can be created and what makes it possible. The literature reveals that there is need for research concerning trust in psychiatry. In this study we examined two different caring contexts and investigated what makes…

Mindfulness y neurobiología

2006

Imagining between ourselves: a group interview approach in exploring listening experiences

2014

In this paper listening experiences are explored through verbal interactions in a group interview situation. By focusing on (1) ordinary and (2) evocative modes of dealing with listening experiences, the present study investigated how imagination mediates between pre-reflective and reflective consciousness and how imagining is shared between persons. Analysis revealed that participants utilised both modes in their discussions for either music or everyday sound samples, although the ordinary mode was the dominant one. The evocative mode was utilised relatively more frequently with the music samples. Group dynamics had an effect on how the mental images and meanings were described and shared …
